Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
Hello,
maybe you can help me :)
I have a Mercury v4.62 running on a Windows Server 2008-System.
Mails are send via MercuryC and read over IMAP using Thunderbird.
When I use both Thunderbird and Pegasus, installed on the windows server 2008-system, everything works fine.
But unfortunaly i can't get the mails from mercury with
either of them, using one of the client computers.
They seem to get a reply from the server since they are both showing the message count/new mail icon. Loading Folder is in a loop for a few minutes, then ends without showing any mail or errors.
I already tried everything I could think of (tested with firewall/anti virus off), do you have any suggestions?
I've created a few screenshots of the settings:
Thanks in advance,
Asgard

I'm having a hard time following your question. Is it IMAP that doesn't work?
If so, try enabling session logging in MercuryI, and see what goes wrong from one of your client computers.
If you see no activity at all, I'd say you have a firewall problem with your 2008 server, not allowing connections over TCP port 143 to Mercury, or you have misconfigured the client IMAP connection host settings.
Kind regards / Peter

Peter, thanks for your reply, I'll try to explain the problem again. Our Setup: - Server with Mercury installed: Windows Server 2008 - Clients: several, running Windows XP Professional - Mercury: activated protocols:MercuryS, MercuryC, MercuryD, MercuryI - Mail Clients used for testing: Mozila Thunderbird, Pegasus Mail
locally, everything works fine. When trying to test it from a Client computer, the Mail program manages to connect to server, and recognizes new mails in the inbox, but doesn't show them. Thunderbird show for a 2-3 minutes 'Loading Folder' but eventually neither shows the mails nor any errors.
We tested everything with both anti virus scanner and Firewall off - it didn't work either. Session Logging is activated too, and shows no signs of any errors.

Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
First the fault is concentrated to MercuryI.
1. Verify that you can log in to the account. You can do this via telnet over port 143 (believe I've written instructions on this site somewhere)
If 1. failes, create a new user with empty maildrop, and repeat tests until you succeed.
2. When you know for certain that you can log in, list the folders via IMAP.
If this doesn't success you have a folder corruption on the server.
If it works, you have some form of misalignment between the server folder store and the client store - then there are others here that are better at IMAP than I am to help you further.
Kind regards / Peter

i'm able to connect via Telnet on the IMAP-module of Mercury.

With the local client (Thunderbird installed on the same machine as mercury) everything is working very well. So I think, it is some other problem. Do you, or maybe someone have another idea?! Thanks in advance, Asgard

Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
Filling in the Local domains section of Core configuration might not help with this problem but would probably be a good idea anyway. Could you show a session log from an IMAP connection attempt so we can what's happening from the server's point of view?

Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
Do you have SSL enabled? I have seen a corrupt SSL cert cause this type of behaviour. A session log from MercuryI would help narrow down the problem.

Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
So... client logs in, lists the inbox, requests headers for exactly the existing messages, gets the headers, issues a logout command, and the session terminates. As you say this is a perfectly normal session from the server's point of view. The next step would be to have a closer look at the client side. Could you test it with a third client program, or from a workstation that you haven't connected with IMAP from yet? If you like I can email you a small test program just to check the IMAP response. By the way, you should change the password for the admin account in the log...!

Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
Looks pretty normal to me. Are you absolutely sure that Mercury/32 is not being blocked by a firewall someplace down the line because it sure looks like Mercury/32 is sending the data to the client.

we checked this point twice.... Now, i configured the av-scanner not to check mails on port 143 and 25. And now its working :) In further times, i deactivated the av-scanner completely without success...strange behavior! Many thanks for your help! Greetings Asgard

Ahh - so many times it is something that interferes inbetween. What AV program and version are you using on your clients?
Kind regards / Peter

Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work
Hmm, never heard of their platform. Couldn't see If 9.2 is their latest build (the reference only to 2008 on their homepage). If 9.2 is their latest build I'd file a support case with them.
Kind regards / Peter
