Turn off e-mail from forum
I get e-mail notification of every posting, and I don't want to. The FAQ says:
How do I turn off email-tracking? Email
tracking is a feature which will send emails to you when messages that
you are subscribed to change. You can turn off all email tracking
globally from your profile.
I have set the following contact preferences all to "No":
Receive Emails Receive rich (HTML) emails Enable Email Notifications of forum/thread subscriptions and replies to my posts.
Despite this, I still get e-mail notifications. Is there some setting I am missing? Thanks in advance, Tom

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
I belive the profile flags are only used to set the notification flag when a new thread is started. You probably have to enter each forum and disable the notifications you once have enabled, and then also for the posts that has inherited this flag setting.
I've also noted that on some occasions it may take a long while before the notify flag set at a forum actually sticks. Because each post is tagged as email notification for a number of days, and the setting is derived from the forum level. This setting is most likely stored within a cookie on your own computer, and not until the cookie is expired or refreshed for some reason the flag setting for new posts work as expected. So you can alter your settings or maybe delete the cookies.
Just don't forget your password if you set the Receive Emails flag in your user profile to No. Registration and password recovery is heavily improved in CS2007.
Kind regards / Peter

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
If you go to the level of the forums where you see the list of threads for a topic group such as "Pegasus Mail" or "Feedback on this website", you will get a button in the bottom left labelled "More Options". Click this and it gives the option to enable/disable email notifications for that topic.

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
This is true, for new threads within a forum. For existing threads, that gets replies, you will still be getting notification emails unless you click the button "disable email notifications" for that particular thread.

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
Thanks. I did finally find the "more options" buttons and have set everything to "never." It would be convenient to have a global "no mail" option that would override individual thread settings. If I go on vacation, for example, I might want to turn off e-mails with one click rather than going into each thread.

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
I know email notifications work differently in CS2007, but not exactly how yet. So when we upgrade the site my hope is that this works as both you and I expect.

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
Yes, the navigation on this is very tough.
For instance, you get the message on the bottom of the email:
"You were sent this email because you opted to receive email notifications when someone responded to this thread.
To unsubscribe, either: 1. Visit the above URL and deselect 'Email me when someone replies...' 2. Visit your user profile page and uncheck 'Enable email tracking'"
But the link does not take me to anything where there is any kind of button allowing me to deselect "email me when someone replies"; nor can even find anything on the site that would take me to my "user profile page."
Thanks,
peter m.

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
Oops. I just saw the "enable" button on the forum thread.... Sorry.
And where do I find the "user profile page"? Is that also staring me in the face?

Click your name on the right top corner. It's on the right of the "Signed in as:"

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
I guess I spoke too soon about this being easy.... I can't seem to get Pegasus forum to STOP sending me emails.... Though I find no such phrase as "enable email tracking" on my user profile page, there were 3 different options on the "email" tab and all 3 are checked "No." Am I still missing something?
And I still don't understand the protocol for Enabling and Disabling at the thread itself. There's a bell icon and the words "Enable email tracking," but it's unclear whether clicking on that enables or disables the thing. When there's a checkmark in the bell icon, it says, "Disable....," but again, I don't know whether the current state (i.e. checkmark in the bell) means that the ap. is actually enabled or disabled....
still confused,

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
Got a question recently about this issue. Below is the response I sent - hopefully it is clearer then.
Hi Xxxx, no unfortunately there is no connection between account status or even accounts at
all and email subscription to topics/forum posts.
How on earth the CS team thought in this matter is beyound me.
The only remedy is sign in, then visit each forum, at the bottom of the list, click the
button "More Options" and chech the field "Send Email:" to never.
Now, even if you go through each forum and check set the forum flag for email to never, you may
still get emails for posts where you have checked the flag "Enable Email Subscription".
The threads will eventually die out so this case shouldn't be a concern in the long run.
I can only hope this issue is improved in CS2007.
Cheers / Peter S.

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
Dear Peter,- I am having this problem too. I have used Pegasus for many years, and it is this sort of thing that has several times almost made me dump it. I suggest you take these matters more seriously.
The developers seem to spend a lot of time on sexy new functions and features, but some basic facilities, the ones that new users will first try to use, cause much annoyance. I'm not just having a winge here, because I would like to see Pegasus endure and succeed. Have you considered the number of potential users who try out the programme, come across problems like this and give up to go elsewhere because they are so irritated. Yet the reponse from Pegasus seems to be 'yes this is a bit of a problem, I hope (!) it will be fixed in the next issue'. Purely from a marketing point of view, this is a disastrous attitude to take. Most newcomers to Pegasus will start using it at a fairly basic level, and you need to get them hooked before they go away. The stallwarts will hang on no matter what, and for them the exotic features are welcomed. But your user base will always be small if newcomers get a bad first impression.
When something like this is clearly annoying a lot of people, do something about it now, not later.
Best Regards, Philip Jones: profile user name Philip e j jones

Re: Turn off e-mail from forum
Hmm, bit too dense text for my taste. Also too flamy for my part - the community server software has nothing to do with Pegasus Mail.
Yes disabling emails from the community is a problem. About a week ago I located where in the database this is set and also know how to remove this setting manually.
I'll remove all subscriptions manually for users who send me a request to do so. Starting with mr Jones, maybe - but after having read your post twice I'm not sure if you refer to the community or Pegasus Mail as a program - don't know what features you're referring to Philip.
Kind regards / Peter
