PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

When I try to use 'contact us' or something like that on a web site a message pops up telling that my post client is not correctly installed.

I my MS Internet Explorer > Tools> Internet>  Programmes> Pegasus Mail is mentioned as the e-mail client. What is wrong?

    Regards Gunnar

Maybe I am using wrong English words but my Windows XP is in Danish so my translation may end up with wrong English wording, so please guess the right ones.

Do you have the wsento.exe in the program directory?

If so and it does nevertheless not work properly, try to get hold of the wsnto10.exe utility and install it. It used to be provided over the download pages and is - as far as I know - still available over the pmail ftp-download servers, e.g. http://pegasus.topnz.ac.nz/pegasus/winpmail/

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

I replaced wsendto.exe with wsendto10.exe and I tried an update of the program also but in vain. Any other solution?

PMAIL has earlier worked correctly. Actually I have used PMAIL since the good old days of version 2 and normally it has worked just by installing the downloaded file w32-xxx.exe and following the instruction. Am I missing a check mark somewhere in Windows telling that the PMAIL is the standard post program?

    Regards Gunnar

    Which OS do you use?
Are you aware of the function 'System mailer...' you can found under Pegasus Mail Preferences and Settings (Alt + F10) - Incoming mail - Hyperlinks?

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

I am using Windows XP Home Edition (with all security updates).

I clicked the 'System mailer' and 'Find browser automatically' is check marked and the browser field left open.

As a trial I also unchecked 'Find browser automatically' and instead filled the field with ' C:\Programmer\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe' but in vain. (Please, remember Danish wording in Windows)

    But still the same situation.

    Regards Gunnar

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

I found this solution for your problem:
    - start .... run ...
    - then type in: firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser
I don't know which browser you use, but maybe you can use it for IE, Opera too.
Click after running the command, the function 'System mailer...'
I've now idea of this solve your problem but it is worth trying.

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

I am using Internet Explorer and I copied your command firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser and exchanged firefox with iexplore.exe, did run the command and ended up with Internet Explorer. Then  I turned to (Pegasus Mail) 'System mailer..' and clicked it. Try it out on a web site but still in vain.

I am afraid I have to live with this error and make Outlook Express as standard mailer when using Internet Explorer as I rather few time have to use this function. Of course I will contiue to use Pegasus Mail on daily basis.

    Thank for your effort.

    Kind regards

    Gunnar

Have you checked the registry settings according to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297878

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

Now I am puzzled after reading http:\support\microsoft.com\kb\297878 because if I open with regedit in START > RUN  I find no registry key HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail or HKCU\Software\Clients\Mail  as mentioned in the document but only keys which start with HKEY. I opened all the HKEY without finding any HKLM and HKCU. Well, I am certainly not a master in all that programme stuff and I have never had to edit a registry key when installing PEGASUS Mail or any other programme so I am an ignorant in that respect.

Has my TweakNowRegCleaner programme destroyed something because I use it rather often to keep the computer working fast. But I have never had programme break down because of that and everything else seem to work OK.

But thank you for your interest in my problem.

    Kind Regards

    Gunnar

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

    HKLM is short for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    HKCU is short for HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

    Thank you, Peter

There is nothing about Mail In HKCU.

    HKLM\Software\Client\Mail\Pegasus\Shell\Open\Command there is following: Standard        REG_SZ          C:\PMAIL\ProgramsWINPM-32.EXE

                                                          \Protocols\Mailto\   and here are            Standard        REG_SZ          URL:MailToProtocol

                                                                                                                     EditFlags       REG_BINARY  02 00 00 00

                                                                                                                     URL Protocol  REG_SZ

At least it tells me that PEGASUS MAIL works as a stand-alone mail programme which is does, but if anything else is missing here I am ignorant of.

    Kind regards

    Gunnar

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

If I read the MS KB Article correctly, the mail client should register the HKCU\Software\Clients\Mail (default) Reg_SZ:Pegasus

    since the key HKLM\Software\Client\Mail\Pegasus exists.

If it doesn't I assume you can safely add the current user default mailto: client by adding the Reg_SZ value.

In any case, there has been quite a lot of confusion regarding this over time, so I'll see if I can investigate it a bit further.

    Kind regards / Peter

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

On my developer machine (Vista) with the latest beta of Pegasus Mail I missed a lot of the keys, so manually entering the following keys did the trick - though I suspect the last one is the only one of real importance.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail]
    @="Pegasus Mail"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\Protocols]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\Protocols\mailto]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\Protocols\mailto\DefaultIcon]
    @="C:\\PMAIL\\Programs\\WINPM-32.EXE,1"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\Protocols\mailto\shell]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\Protocols\mailto\shell\open]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\Protocols\mailto\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\PMAIL\\Programs\\WINPM-32.EXE\" -A -T \"%1\""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\shell]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\shell\open]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Pegasus Mail\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\PMAIL\\Programs\\WINPM-32.EXE\" \"-A\""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]
    @="Pegasus Mail"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\PMAIL\\Programs\\WINPM-32.EXE\" -A -T \"%1\""
    "old standard"="\"C:\\PROGRA~1\\MICROS~3\\Office12\\OUTLOOK.EXE\" -c IPM.Note /m \"%1\""

If you copy the above lines and save them with notepad as a pmail.reg file, you simply have to double click the file and the will be installed. - However, I'd make a backup of some of the settings before being that bold.

    Kind regards / Peter

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

    Hi Peter

Before being that bold to run your file, one question. If I make a mess with the registation files am I then able to recreate Windows to an ealier date without problem. You see I am a bit anxious about touching this area in Windows.

    Kind regards

    Gunnar

Re: PMAIL won't work from a WEB SITE

Well I think you only need to touch the last key. If you look closely you'll see what I did, - I copied the default value into old standard, then re-write the default value so that Pegasus Mail is chosen as the mailto operator. Thus, I'm not putting up any warranties - but this single key cannot turn your Windows install into a rambling wedgetable.
    Kind regards / Peter
