4.61 BUG: Copying between message windows

I'd just like to report an apparent bug in the 4.61 version which does not occur with the latest official version.

If you want to copy some text from an existing message into a new message window, you just use the mouse to select the text you want then hit CTRL-C, and then click in the body-text area of the new message window and hit CTRL-V to paste in the text. This has always worked OK in past versions.

But in the 4.61 version, you can only paste into the body-text area if the source message window (where you copied from) is still open. If you copy the text and then immediately close the source message window, then you can not paste the text into the body-text of the new message window - but you CAN paste into the To, Subject, and CC fields of the new message. So it just seems to be a problem with pasting into the body-text area.

I'm using Vista in case that's significant.

This is once again the TER editor failing, it appears to not recognize the formatted content (HTML or RTF) which IERenderer (and IE itself if you try) copy to clipboard: If you select the plain text option of Pegasus Mail's Paste special options (either via context menu or Ctrl + Shift + V) you will be able to insert the plain text without formatting. There might be a programmatical workaround, but basically the TER developers (SubSystems) need to fix this, and since David Harris now got a new licence of the current version to be included with an upcoming update he might be able to get them to fix it.

it appears to not recognize the formatted content (HTML or RTF) which IERenderer (and IE itself if you try) copy to clipboard

But if you leave the source message window open, then you CAN paste into the destination message body-text pane. Surely if it was just a matter of the format of the data on the clipboard then it wouldn't matter if the source window was still open or not ?

Also when the source message window is kept open, some of the text formatting does get pasted OK into the destination pane - e.g. text size, boldness, and sometimes font.

That's why I said it appears ...: I don't know how TER exactly acts, but RTF resp. HTML aren't native clipboard formats, they need to be registered by applications understanding them, maybe it's a matter of version incongruencies (which wouldn't really be a surprise as Microsoft loves breaking standards to their advantage and both RTF and HTML are rather complex formats anyway).

Just tried Ctrl-C'ing from an existing message in preview mode, then selecting a different folder to display, closing that message, then started a new message and Ctrl-V'ed to the body and all copied fine.

Maybe it's something to do with the font of the copied text.

    Cheers.

No, it's an IE bug, you can see the same happening when copying from an IE (browser) window into any other application accepting RTF text (like office applications providing the paste contents options): The IE renderer destroys any RTF resources on the clipboard when being closed. I've already implemented a workaround for the next IERenderer update preserving the RTF clipboard contents and inserting it back into the clipboard after closing IERenderer instances.
