Good afternoon from Europa!

I'm using more than 10 different IMAP profiles and would like to sort them. At the moment their order depends on which one I created first and which one I added last.

Is there a way to change the order of IMAP profiles without deleting them and creating them in an new order?

 

And, by the way, I would like to start all profiles with the subfolders closed. I can't explain why some IMAP profiles always start with the subfolders closed while others start with the subfolders opened.

It isn't influenced by the state the folders are in when I close Pegasus. The "Save destop state between sessions"-option has no influence. At the next start always the same subfolders are opened/closed and I can't find out how to manipulate this.

You would have to exit Pegasus Mail and then edit the file IMAP.PM.  You would manually cut and paste each pair of lines associated with each entry to get them sorted as you would prefer.

Mount the IMAP mailboxes.
Set the folder structure state.
Right-Click each IMAP mailbox and select "Disconnect this mailbox".
Close Pegasus via the File > Exit menu option.

I exactly applied the steps you described. But it has no effect on the folder state after the next launch of Pegasus Mail. (The "Save desktop state..." option activated).

The problem of opened/closed subfolders doesn't depend upon how many subfolders there are or if there is any unread mail in the subfolders or not. Constantly some IMAP profiles start with subfolders opened, others do not.

I find the above procedure will keep the all expanded, all collapsed, or some combination state.
One can only persistently collapse to the base folder level, not all the way down to the mailbox only level.

Yes, my aim is, that all my IMAP profiles look like your first mailbox when I start Pegasus. That would be perfect. But I can't persuade Pegasus to remember this state after closing and restarting the programme.

(Astonishigly, in all my IMAP profiles, the "Drafts", "Junk" and all other subfolders appear as subfolders of the "New or unread mail (INBOX)" folder . In none of my IMAP profiles it is possible to create a folder on the same level as the "INBOX" folder as in your case. But this shouldn't effect my question.)

In Pegasus... Help > About | Info...
Note the "Home mailbox location".
In that directory you will find "IMC-???" subdirectories for the IMAP mailboxes.
In the "IMC-???" subdirectories are files named DESKTOP.PDC in which I believe is stored the expanded/collapsed state of the IMAP folders.

Try this...
With the IMAP mailboxes disconnected* rename the files DESKTOP.PDC to DESKTOP.PDC.BAK
*Pegasus could be either closed or mailboxes disconnected.
When the mailboxes are again mounted the folder structure should be collapsed.

The below command line, run from a prompt at the "Home mailbox location", can speed the 'rename' process.
FOR /D %I IN (IMC-???) DO MOVE /Y "%I\DESKTOP.PDC" "%I\DESKTOP.PDC.BAK"

To undo the 'rename'...
FOR /D %I IN (IMC-???) DO MOVE /Y "%I\DESKTOP.PDC.BAK" "%I\DESKTOP.PDC"

IIRC the number right after the IMAP4 name in the IMAP4.PM file is the settings for the account.  I suspect if you took the number from one that is doing what you want and made them all the same it would fix your problem. 

That said, I have not tried this and I really recommend using a copy of the original file if you want to test this.  Here's a snippet from my IMAP4.PM file.

Profile: "Aol",28672,"imap.aol.com",143,
Profile-ID: 1016
Profile: "Bayarea",421896,"mail4.bayarea.net",143,
Profile-ID: 1012
Profile: "DDG-8",421889,"192.168.1.2",143,

to Guy: That did it! - I renamed the DESKTOP.PDC to DESKTOP.PDC.BAK and at the next start all folders were collapsed. Thanks a lot!

I even found that in the subdirectories for some IMAP profiles there was no DESKTOP.PDC at all, and this were those profiles where the folders always were callapsed.

 

to Thomas R. Stephenson: Thanks for your advice. I tried the way you suggested, as well. But I found that in my IMAP.PM there were IMAP profiles which behave different in terms of expanded/collapsed folders but have the same five-digit number, so this couldn't be the solution, I think.

Now I'm perfectly happy. My only other problem is to terminate rain this afternoon...
