You many get tired of Thunderbird (may even want to try using Pegasus Mail

What can Pegasus Mail do that Thunderbird cannot?

What can Pegasus Mail do that Thunderbird cannot?

Thunderbird is a POP3/IMAP4 mail client, Pegasus Mail is a mail system.  When working with Mercury/32 it can access it's mailboxes directly without either POP3 or IMAP4. It can also send the mail via the mercury queue.  Mercury in this case would be receiving/sending the mail and Pegasus mail would automatically see the mail as received in the inbox. May or may not be something you find necessary or even all that useful but many do.  ;-)  It's especially useful though when you have multiple users.

If you get a dynamic IP address tracked via something like http://DynDNS.org you can receive the mail via SMTP instead of POP3.

What is the advantage of receiving mail via SMTP versus POP3?

POP3 is a single user protocol.  With a single user it's no big deal how the mail is received but when trying to manage multiple users in a single POP3 mailbox the difference is huge.  Mail is delivered  using the SMTP headers and so it does not make any difference at all what is in the body of the RFC 2822 message.  You also have the ability to use SMTP blacklists and graywalling to block the spam at the server rather than having to download and process the mail.
