Timeout after end of SMTP data lines and ".<cr><lf>"

    Hi everybody,

I use Mercury v4.72. For several months I do experience following problem when delivering emails to somebody@yahoo.com, using MercuryE SMTP client:

    - When a message is larger then 2 MB, after MercuryE finishes SMTP data lines with ".<cr><lf>", Yahoo SMTP server do not respond with "250 Ok" within reasonable time (next 10 sec). Therefore MercuryE timeouts. It will quit with "QUIT<cr><lf>" and will probably report some "Socket read error" in log file. Result: the email will not be delivered to somebody@yahoo.com, "TCP/IP error during processing" will appear in connection history and MercuryE will keep retrying with no success.

Actually, I suspect that in that case Yahoo does respond with "250 OK" - but after long (12 seconds) delay - which seems to be is too late for MercuryE.

Larger the email message - longer the Yahoo's delay will be (probably the time required to process data scan increases, etc.).

If the message is shorter then (about) 2MB, the delay will be less then 10 sec and MercuryE will get "250 Ok" response in time. Result: the email will be delivered to somebody@yahoo.com successfully.

My MercuryE TCP/IP timeout is increased to 450 seconds, but it does not help.

Here are examples of the log file for a failed transaction, email size 2MB:

    13:32:00.203: << .<cr><lf>
    13:32:09.640: << QUIT<cr><lf>
13:32:09.640: 7: Socket read error 10054 (connection aborted by remote host)
    13:32:09.656: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 13:32:09 2010. ---

    or

    13:50:19.484: << .<cr><lf>
    13:50:58.031: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    13:50:58.031: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 13:50:58 2010. ---

    or

    14:16:30.421: << .<cr><lf>
    14:16:43.593: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    14:16:43.609: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 14:16:43 2010. ---

    or

    14:27:24.828: << .<cr><lf>
    14:27:40.140: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    14:27:40.140: 7: Socket read error 10053 (ECONNABORTED)
    14:27:40.140: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 14:27:40 2010. ---

Here are the examples of the log file for a failed transaction, email size 4MB:

    13:03:52.953: << .<cr><lf>
    13:04:02.578: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    13:04:02.578: 7: Socket read error 10053 (ECONNABORTED)
    13:04:02.578: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 13:04:02 2010. ---

    or

    13:25:30.250: << .<cr><lf>
    13:26:11.593: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    13:26:11.609: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 13:26:11 2010. ---

    or

    13:52:55.796: << .<cr><lf>
    13:53:22.609: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    13:53:22.609: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 13:53:22 2010. ---

After all, I set MercuryE TCP/IP timeout to 1000 sec, but no improvement.

These above were all examples of unsuccessfull email transactions. Here below is an example of the log file for a successful transaction, email size 1KB:

    13:38:32.109: << .<cr><lf>
    13:38:34.140: >> 250 ok dirdel<cr><lf>
    13:38:34.156: << QUIT<cr><lf>
    13:38:35.328: >> 221 mta1078.mail.sp2.yahoo.com<cr><lf>
    13:38:35.328: --- Connection closed normally at Wed May 12 13:38:35 2010. ---

I complained to Yahoo guys but they seem to be useless.

I would like to make MercuryE to wait for "250 Ok" for 60 sec, if possible, and to test again. Can anybody help with this?

    Bye, Nenad
