Is there a way to trace mail filter processing?

Over the years, I have built up a large set of new mail filtering rules.

When new mail is sorted or deleted incorrectly, I would like a way to tell what rule in the filter has triggered and why so I can fix the problem.

Is there any way to trace or log the actions that triggers in the new mail (or any) filter.

I've tried setting the system logging level to the highest (8) but it still doesn't show me which rules trigger for which messages when I open the new mail folder.

Thanks for any advice on debugging mail filters.
