Re: Lost Folder - HIERARCH.PM del didnt work

    Greenman,

While there may be people in disagreement, for myself I have no problems with the movement to quarantine - however, the two problems that need fixing are very clear and specific:

    1. Automatic deletion of files should not be set as a default.

On this matter  I have discovered in 'scan results overview' the listing of the which files have been deleted, and which ones have been moved to the vault.

What is truly wierd is is that when I drilled down to 'detailed object information' (on the deleted file) - I am informed that the 'Result' was file deleted, but the 'Action History' indicates it was moved to the virus vault.

This is gobblydegook AND what's worse is that this was not a '30 day in the vault so delete' scenario (as per 'Advanced Settings') - it all happened after a single scan.

So this has nothing at all to do with identifying false positives.

Maybe it was a false positive - but who cares...................the fact is that AVG8 of its own accord, decided to delete two files that happened to be important to me (it didn't know that, but it should presume that the file was important, as a basic principal, and let me decide what to do.

I repeat - this is a fact - and as this happened after the upgrade, then it follows that there must be a critical fault in the AVG8 program.

Therefore - may I ask you - do you have good comms with the right people at AVG?

Cos if you do - you can shortcut and eliminate the difficulties I will have, contacting the right people - the objective here is not to whine about glitches in the code, but merely to move forward, resolving problems as they become known.

    How say you?

    2. Configuring prompting about every action

I personally have no problems with overnight moving of files to quarantine - it's just that I would like to be told when this happens, cos I do not sit down at the PC and ask myself whether AVG has moved any files overnight.

I have looked at all the settings that I can adjust, and I found no setting that deals with the issue of reporting actions in a meaningful manner (and anyway - in this case it would have been too late cos my files were already gone - though it would have saved countless hours of wasted work, trying to figure out what has happened).

....................As for your comment on AV and email developers working together - I can't respond as I'm not in either camp.

    My issues are clear:-

         Don't auto-delete.
         Do auto-prompt.

Can you help in this matter?

     Ace
