Message size limiter affected by spam filter?

I have cap on my file download size to restrict silly buggers sending me huge files and eating up my expensive bandwidth. On Friday, however, I noted a huge file that had downloaded without my help. I was mystified, as I had not changed any PM settings except update my spam filter in the server-side mail filtering options in download controls.

Today, another big file managed to make its way around my controls.

Is there any way the server-side mail controls could have an effect on the message download size control?

Not at all sure way any size limit gets bypassed.  The only thing that comes to mind is that the OS is not returning a proper size spec when WinPMail asks for the file size.  This could easily happen if some other program (like anti-virus software) was accessing the file at the same time.  This could also happen if you are using a proxy (again like anti-virus software) between WinPMail and the server.

Doesn't make sense either - I use (and have used) AVG for about a year now, and this has never occurred. The only change was me loading up the spam filter file. Now that I've unloaded the spam filter file, things are back to normal. I have no proxy either - just XP software firewall.
