    Cannot send mail

I do not know what I have done or how to solve the problem  I have completely uninstalled Peasus, removed all registry entries, reinstalled but when I try to send an email I have this message:

You do not have an active SMTP definition for sending mail by the internet so no action can be taken .

I shall be very grateful for any practical advice, please.  Preferably step by step ;-)

    Many thanks

    Regards

Go to Tools | Internet options | (Sending) SMTP and setup a SMTP server to be used for sending the mail.

I may be a bit dense but I had already looked at that and didn't know what to do, hence the step by step request, please.

I tried entering smtp.wanadoo.fr but nothing worked

    Is that the server?

    Re: Cannot send mail

Follow the menu, Thomas told you already.

Add a new SMTP Server definition.

Enter a  (user-choice) name for this definition.

    Enter your server name: smtp.wanadoo.fr

    Port is 25

    Goto the tab "Security"

Select STARTTLS, if you need to authenticate at the server, select the checkbox and enter your username and password.

    kind regards

Add a new SMTP Server definition.

Thanks Tigershark.   That is the bit I don't understand.

Can you give me an example of an SMTP definition, please?

Can't help being somewhat thick with this bit and I thought that I was reasonably intelligent :-(

    Re: Cannot send mail

Ok, i'll try my best ;-)

Look at the two screenshots below (don't mind the german ui)

Screenshot one shows the general definition including definition name, server and port number.

    General Settings

Screenshot two shows the security settings, STARTTLS is selected and authentication at the server with username and password.

    Hope this will help you

    Re: Cannot send mail

The entries here are quite simple, kowning what to enter is a bit more difficult since these are specific to yuor SMTP host.

1,    What has your ISP told you to use for the SMTP host name.

    2.    What has your ISP told you to use for the port?

    3.    Does the ISP require you to use  SSL or STARTTLS? (Special tab)

     4.   Does your ISP require the use of Authentication? (Special tab)

I tested smtp.wannado.fr on port 25 and it responded

    220 mwinf2814.orange.fr ESMTP **************************
    ehlo thomas
    250-mwinf2814.orange.fr
    250-PIPELINING
    250-SIZE 20971520
    250 8BITMIME

So I suspect that the host name smtp.wannadoo.fr using port 25 should work in the SMTP setup.

    Re: Cannot send mail

    Thanks very much Thomas.

I have copied your reply to desktop and will try it out.

As you said, it is probably quite simple but knowing what to enter is the problem.

Unfortunately I am not a youngster anymore and not as quick on the uptake as I once was.

Thanks for your help.  I will let you know the result tomorrow.

I'm 71, you might be a bit older, but age doesn't cause problems the the lack of experience of the kids does.  ;-)

    Re: email tracking

Can anyone tell me how to unsubscribe from email tracking?  I'm being 'bomarded' with emails that are irrelevant to me and I cannot seem to prevent their arrival!

    Re: email tracking

This is Off-Topic to this thread, but just train SpamHalter that these kind of messages are Spam, and let it dispose of them for you.  You can't stop the person from sending them, just like with other Spam.

Good afternoon Thomas. I do apologise for the delay but i have been having fun!  You are quite right about the youngsters ;-)  I am a little older than you, just five years.

Anyway, thanks to you and Tiger for the useful information.  Your suggestions were default anyway but I removed  the exisitng entries and resubmitted, to no effect. I then reinstalled a fresh copy of Pegasus over the old one, still no good.  I then uninstalled Pegasus and reinstalled a totaly fresh copy but still no good so I came to the unwelcome conclusion tat it was not a Pegasus fault so I reinstalled XP and all is well!   Except that having downloaded and installed a new copy of Pegasus I am not sure how to copy my email addresses and  emails across.  Can I just copy the Admin file?  You answer will be very welcome, please.

    Many thanks again, both

    Regards

That will work except you might not want to copy the pmail.ini file since there program directory configuration is different. Make sure WinPMail is not running when you do this.
