    User/Alias Management

    Greetings!

I want to thank everyone for their help with my multi-domain question - I have solved my problem and am moving on to the next challenge:

Is there a means to add/edit local users via a text file or via a web interface?  Same question for forwards (on local users) and aliases.

I am moving a large number of email boxes for the non-profit that I work with from a bluequartz system to Mercury along with a fair number of non-local forwards and aliases.  I can do it via the configuration interface but hope that there is a more...elegant...solution.

    Looking forward to your advice!

    Re: User/Alias Management

The users are held in a file called pmail.usr (ASCII) and have their own mail subdirectory.  Should not be that much of a problem create a script/program/batch file to add the users to the pmail.usr file, create a a matching subdirectory with a passwd.pm file.  Open these in a current setup for details.  The pmail.usr file though must be sorted by username.

Moving the actual data from another system is not all that difficult if the system supports IMAP4.   Download IMAPCopy: http://home.arcor.de/armin.diehl/imapcopy/imapcopy.html

Configure it to copy from your IMAP Server remote account to the local Mercury/32 account. These configuration settings are entered into the ImapCopy.cfg file.  Then run:

    imapcopy.exe -s -e

the -e tells IMAPCopy to copy all folders, including empty ones and the -s tells IMAPCopy to subscribe you to any folders that are created on the destination.  When IMAPCopy finishes, you should have all your mail moved from the remote IMAP Server to the Mercury/32 IMAP4 account.

    Re: User/Alias Management

Wow, I wish that BQ was fully imap compliant!  Looks like I'm going to have to do it the hard way and write some scripting.

Looking at the pmail.usr file, everything is hard-left justified.  Is this the proper context?  Will leading/trailing spaces cause issues?  Also need to ask what is the difference between lines starting with 'A;' and 'U;'?

     Appreciate the help!

    Yes

    Will leading/trailing spaces cause issues?

Yes, at least with the username and probably with the personal name if you are using the fname.lname@domain.com advanced delivery option.   I've done a BASIC program to build these before from a student listing and had to trim both left and right to get this right.

Also need to ask what is the difference between lines starting with 'A;' and 'U;'?

    A=Admin U=User

    Re: User/Alias Management

The Web Tools in the download section can be used for adding users, aliases and forwards. But that's for individual additions, not batches, obviously.
