    Delay in opening mail

Running pmail 4.41 on windows vista on my wireless laptop at home. No problems until a few days ago, when all of a sudden it was taking up to 10 seconds to open a mail. Thought it might be an antivirus delay (running Norton 360), but then noticed during the wait it was transmitting (to my hub and presumably onto the net) - the transmission stops and the mail opens. Have done a complete scan with Norton, nothing found. Any idea what could be the problem?

    Cheers

    Re: Delay in opening mail

Trying to open a connection to a remote printer that is no longer connected?  WinPMail talks to the windows default printer driver to ask how to display the font in a message.  For some strange reason some printer drivers also check to see if the printer is available at that time.  This can cause excessive delays while waiting to the printer driver to time out.  Try setting the default printer to a PDF printer driver or one set to print to a file.

    Re: Delay in opening mail

Thanks for the pointer - but it turned out not to be quite that simple! When I disonnected from the network, mails opened instantly. Reconnected, and set the default to print to file and that also worked. The original default printer was on the desktop, hardwired to the network in the office. I had installed the latest printer driver last week, and when I rebooted there was a problem with a missing dll. Didn't affect the local printing, but remote printing from my laptop is delayed - as was opening mails! How weird. But many thanks. Need to sort out printer driver. Didn't think pmail could be hacked that easy - that's why I use it!

     Cheers
