how to access multiple pop3 email accounts

I have a bunch of email accounts all with my ISP.  I need Pegasus to check all these accounts when I check the mail.   However, while I was able to do this easily in other email clients, after spending a considerable amount of time searching for the answer, I have not been able to figure out how to do it.  Pegasus only checks one on the email accounts when I tell it to check the mail.  I have tried creating new identities, but that does not seem to work.  After a long time searching I figured out how to create new definitions in network configuration under the receiving tab.  However, when I created a new definition there it not check the email for that account.  I am sure I put in the username and password correctly.  Is there someone who can direct me to a step by step instruction on how to set this up with multiple POP3 email accounts?  I would also like to be able to send email from any of the accounts, if that requires a special configuration.  I have found bits and pieces of the puzzle in various places, but cannot find the one spot that will walk me through the entire process.  Thanks.

Betreft: how to access multiple pop3 email accounts

    Johnaz,

Check option 'When checking for mail, perform checks for all identities', you can find under File - Network configuration...
tab Receiving (POP3) - 'Checking multiple identities'.

Re: how to access multiple pop3 email accounts

It is important to understand that creating a definition for a POP3 account does not in itself make Pegasus check that account.

After you create the account, you must add it to the "Check these POP3 hosts for mail" window in the Internet Options. My setup has five different accounts showing if I click the "Add" button but I have added only two of them to the list to be automatically checked.

You should not use multiple identities to check different mail accounts. Identities are for when you want to use a different set of main Pegasus options without logging in under a different Pegasus user account. For example if you want to have a different outgoing username or server.

You say that identities should not be used to check different mail accounts.  I don't understand, is there another way to do it or are you saying that Pegasus is not designed to use to check multiple email accounts.  If there is another way to check multiple email accounts, please explain to me what steps I need to take to check multiple email accounts.

Perhaps the language I used was misleading. Although you CAN use identities to check different accounts, for most people it is not necessary. Identities are a confusing concept and many people incorrectly think that they have to set up a new identity for each e-mail account that they want to check.

Any single identity can have many different mail accounts that it can send and receive through. Identities are designed to allow you to have different settings in the main Pegasus Options without logging in as a different user. For example, if I use Pegasus at work, I might have two mail accounts under my main identity - one for personal e-mail and one for work e-mail. However, when I send messages to people who contacted me on my personal account, I may want to have the sender address as something more friendly or even a nickname. Changing the identity used to send the message might allow me to have my name appear as "Big Bad Sharky" and also use a different outgoing server. Then I'd change back to my work identity where my real name is shown.

As I've said previously, you can add as many of your e-mail accounts as you wish to the "Check these POP3 hosts for mail" box in the internet options. Each identity can check a different list of accounts if that is what you need.

    Does that all make sense?

Yes, thanks, that clears that up.  I'll work on it and see if I can get it to work.  Thanks for your help.
