    Almost there...?

I heard the first beta for the version 5 should have appeared around the end of December. Even though of course there's no rush, I'm just curious: any news? :)

No, and what does appeared exactly mean to you? The only (non-public) betas I've seen so far are 4.6x versions.

    Re: Almost there...?

This is what David said in his last update of November 2010:

"We hope to release an initial version of Pegasus Mail version 5 with the new contact manager in place either late in December this year, or early in 2011. A subsequent version with the entirely-new message store I have been working on for over a year will follow at a later stage."

I had understood there would be something released in late December 2010 or January 2011 as well.

There should be an interim release soon.

Cannot wait, really curious to try it!

The ver. 4 has great features, but I hope the interface has improved and moreover all the freezing and delaying problem I'm having have been fixed (slow redraw of the inbox, slooooow interrogation with the server...)

Don't get your hopes to high on fixing your personal network issues, especially since no considerable work has been done in this area and nobody else complained about this. And how many messages does your "inbox" contain?

    Re: Almost there...?

In the Inbox I've 293 emails right now.

Anyway, it seems strange that nobody else noticed some weird window refresh delays or issues. I've tried Pegasus on 4 different machines, one Win XP x86, two Win 7 x86 and one Win 7 X64. I've got the same problems on all the machines. Weird behavior with window refresh, oddness by double clicking on the messages it never works, never opens the message into a new window, rather just refresh the message. To actually open it in a new window, I've to select the message and then press Enter, that's the only way it works.

Since, if I'm not mistaken, Pegasus is being rewritten, probably the gui could react faster and all this problems will be gone.

I'm sure somebody else here on the forum posted about the delay issue when Pegasus counts the messages to download from the server.

Things are usually a bit more complicated than you describe them: Weird, odd and doesn't work doesn't help a bit in fixing, we need more details about what exactly happens when executing which action with what messages (HTML? plain text? encrypted?) etc. pp. (maybe a screenshot), and what amount of delay with how many messages on the server (POP3? IMAP?) are you talking about?

Aside from this you may rather start a new thread (even better two of them dealing with the different issues) in the support forum where they belong.

With the hope that 'weird' and 'odd' will not be banned as those symptoms are actually weird ;) I'll open new threads in the support forum.

Just curious too. Do you have a lot of filtering rules, including spam control?

    Re: Almost there...?

Sorry, haven't got the time to create a new post in the support forum yet.

Yaff, I've got about 47 filters created with with auto filtering.

About the spam control I think they maybe 200 or so.

    Re: Almost there...?

If you feel like experimenting. Backup your pegasus installation, create a Folder, move your 293 msgs in it and see if you still experience the problem(s).

I've been using Pegasus for almost 20 years. I'm by no mean an expert but I had a tendency to stack useless filters over time and import them each time a new version of Pegasus came out. If our beloved stallion starts breathing again after you cleaned your inbox, then you know where to look to solve your issues.

Optimize -> Revisit your rules, remove what no longer makes sense, prioritize the ones with higher hit rates and make sure you exit the filtering process as soon as possible.

    Re: Almost there...?

David's announcements about new releases always referred to a version 5.0. Is 4.61 only an interim release and which changes and features can we expect?
