    Splash screen distorted

    Attachment: pm_splash.jpg
Since I installed PM on my new laptop the splash screen looks distorted with the splash screen background enlarged in comparison to the blue PM 'Pegasus' splash screen section (see screenshot). While it is only an aesthetic issue I still wonder what caused it and maybe how to fix it.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

    Thomas

    Re: Splash screen distorted

I believe it is a consequence of a high screen resolution.  There is no way to fix it other than to reduce the resolution.  I run my 1920x1080 laptop at 1600x900 to make Pegasus Mail more usable but the splash screen still looks the same as what you are seeing.

    Thanks Brian,
Yes, I already thought that it might be related to the screen resolution. I run my laptop with its max resolution of 1920x1080. So it seems to be a ‘bug’ rather something went wrong during installation.
    Cheers

I am curious whether you are using any sort of tool or utility to make the fixed font of Pegasus Mail readily readable at 1920x1080.  I tried some magnifier tools before resorting to reducing the resolution.

    Re: Splash screen distorted

I told David Harris about this problem, his answer was :

"You're using a so-called "Large Font" display driver. This will throw out almost anything that needs to display a fixed-size item in a Windows dialog, because the Windows dialog units will change but the fixed-size item won't.
Many years ago I invested enormous effort in "solving" this problem by developing my own bitmapped button control, which uses proportions and percentages instead of pixels for its measurements. That's why most of the buttons in the program will look reasonably OK on your display.
I can probably "fix" the splash screen by using one of my bitmapped button controls (in static bitmap mode) instead of the standard Windows picture control.
    "

The next version of Pegasus Mail will have this problem fixed.

    Hi Brian,
I am not using any tools to make the ‘fixed’(?) fonts more readable. Maybe I have to mention that I am using Windows 7 with the Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000. With Windows default installation settings for that resolution I actually found everything too large for my taste, so I reduced the text size in Windows from ‘medium’ 125% (default) to ‘smaller’ 100% (under ‘Make text and other items larger or smaller’) but left the screen resolution at the max of 1920x1080.

This also reduced the text size in PM but most icons remained the same size. See attached screenshots (left 100% right 125%). You probably already tried it but in your case you may want to try to increase the text size settings to 150%.
    Cheers

    Thanks Phil,
I just try to get my head around it. I suppose that this so-called "Large Font" display driver is nothing one can influence as it come with the graphics driver or OS. I assume that this so-called "Large Font" is actually more related to the bitmaps/icons rather than the text/font sizes? (see my reply to Brian)
    Many thanks.
    Cheers

Thanks Thomas.  I too have an Intel HD Graphics but the 4000.  After trying many combinations of text size and resolution I settled on the default 'medium' 125% text size at the 1600x900 resolution.  It was too much of a struggle to read config windows, address books, new message header lines, and even the content pane in the help screens in Pegasus Mail to stick with the 1920x1080 for daily use.

    Hi Brian,
Just out of curiosity. Does your Windows give you the 150% text size option as well? I notice that PM reacts on these settings with increasing the text size however that might be unsuitable for Windows itself as well as all the other applications. Hmm
    Cheers

    Re: Splash screen distorted

I have tested the 150% text size but it only affects the text size in a few area of Pegasus Mail (the pull down menu text for instance).  The text is still tiny where Pegasus Mail uses a fixed font (eg: config screens, new message To: and Subject: fields, and addressbooks to name a few).

Pegasus is made up of a combination of configurable fonts (configurable for many of the windows like the folder list, message reader, new message), fonts that respond to system settings (like the pull down menu and window titles), and fixed size fonts like those I listed above (troublesome for me at high res).
