Just "upgraded" to Windows 10 free. Wont send mail from mailto: in browser now.

Since upgrading on Sunday-Monday, mail links from web pages will no longer open a new message in Pegasus. I have the latest version - 4.72.

I checked Seamonkey ( my browser ) settings and mailto: links invoke Wsend in Pegasus, but no longer work. I get the error: Wsendto could not communicate with Pegasus Mail.

Get and install the latest IERenderer update (uploaded yesterday) which provides a fix for a Seamonkey issue occuring on at least Windows 10. Additionally goto Tools => Options => Hyperlinks in Pegasus Mail and click System mailer.

IE, as in Internet Explorer? Never use IE.

Yes and no, IERenderer is part of Pegasus Mail for some years now and uses IE's rendering machine for displaying HTML messages in Pegasus Mail by default unless you decided to switch back to BearHtml. So it is not IE but uses it's libraries and capabilities beyond what Pegasus Mail itself or BearHtml can do with HTML messages. One reason for introducing it was the frequent crashing of Pegasus Mail caused to some larger extent by HTML messages. It has been hardened a lot with regard to security issues for not introducing new problems, but you're still free to turn it off if you wish so.

    Melissa2011B,

For clarification, IERenderer installs as part of the Pegasus Mail installation and listed in the installed programs list as "Pegasus Mail HTML Renderer x.x.x.x".  The download Michael refers to is a zip file containing an installation executable.

Michael, do you recommend the previous version be uninstalled first?

No, the installer does all necessary modifications automatically, there's no need to uninstall anything, only Pegasus Mail needs to be shut down prior to updating - which the installer demands if not already done.

OK, I finally got back to this thread. Installed IERenderer etc, but it doesn't solve the problem.

Re: Just "upgraded" to Windows 10 free. Wont send mail from mailto: in browser now.

I have news. I just opened a chat session with Microsoft Support. They were actually nice enough to give me support for this free Windows 10 upgrade.

What we discovered was that, while none of the mailto links from ANY browser would work with Pegasus, if I switched to Thunderbird as my default email program in Windows 10, THEN the mailto links work!

So this positively identifies Pegasus as not working with mailto links from all browers, on my PC, after the upgrade from Win 7 to Windows 10.

It MAY be because that WSEND.EXE is a 2011 dated file?

And yes, I've ALSO tried running  WSEND.EXE in Win 7 compatibility mode, to no avail.

Sorry for repeating myself, but did you go to Tools => Options => Hyperlinks in Pegasus Mail and click System mailer?

Unless logged in as Admin the system mailer button should trigger a User Account Control window that requests Admin credentials.  Is that happening?

If it doesn't happen go to Pegasus Mail's Programs directory (usually C:\PMail\Programs) and double click the file named setpmdefault.exe which should trigger exactly the same. After allowing execution you will be asked whether you want to set Pegasus Mail as as your system's default email application which should happen after clicking Yes. Try MAILTO links again after doing so. A system restart shouldn't be required but might sometimes be helpful.

You should have Wsendto.exe in c:\pmail\programs   Its date should be 12/21/2011 or better and its size 74 Kb. Secondly, with Pegasus Mail running, you should click the program WSendto.exe in Windows Explorer and you should get a Pegasus Mail Composing message dialog produced.
