    Deleting folder fails using Outlook/Thunderbird

    Hello,

I have 10 users using Mercury mailserver. The al are using Outlook as client. In the past I used Thunderbird as client.

I have problems moving and deleting folders. Deleting and moving folders is not working using Outlook and Thunderbird. (Folders are empty). The following log shows delteing folder '2009".

    22:35:10.521: >> men7 SELECT "2009"<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.533: << * 0 EXISTS<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.537: << * 0 RECENT<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.541: << * FLAGS (\Deleted \Draft \Seen \Answered)<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.545: << * OK [UIDVALIDITY 1511053057] UID Validity<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.548: << * OK [UIDNEXT 2] Predicted next UID<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.552: << * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\Deleted \Draft \Seen \Answered)] Settable message flags<cr><lf>
    22:35:10.556: << men7 OK [READ-WRITE] SELECT completed.<cr><lf>

I already created a Mercury Service account, placed it in the admin group and the service is started by this account on a Windows 10 system.

Why can I not delete this folder?

    Mat

Was that the log excerpt you meant to include? I can only see a SELECT command.

    Hello Rolf,

I tried again and the log only shows de SELECT command. Looks that the command for deleting the folder is not coming through.

Adding a folder via Outlook is working:

    18:18:42.956: >> 9k8n UID FETCH 1:2 (UID FLAGS)<cr><lf>
    18:18:42.965: << * 1 FETCH (UID 1 FLAGS (\Seen)
    18:18:42.969: << )<cr><lf>
    18:18:42.973: << * 2 FETCH (UID 2 FLAGS (\Seen)
    18:18:42.977: << )<cr><lf>
    18:18:42.989: << 9k8n OK UID FETCH complete.<cr><lf>
    18:18:53.125: >> l7ux LSUB "" "2011"<cr><lf>
    18:18:53.131: << l7ux OK LSUB completed.<cr><lf>
    18:18:53.140: >> 3dss LIST "" "2011"<cr><lf>
    18:18:53.144: << 3dss OK LIST completed.<cr><lf>
    18:18:53.149: >> 2g4w CREATE "2011"<cr><lf>

The session log shows everything that is sent from and to the client, so for some reason the client doesn't appear to send a DELETE command.

With Thunderbird I have the same problem. What is the reason that Outlook or Thunderbird is not sending the delete command?

No idea, but perhaps there is some log in the clients that could give a hint? I found this for Thunderbird: https://www.mailenable.com/kb/content/article.asp?ID=ME020591

Re: Deleting folder fails using Outlook/Thunderbird

It is solved. The solutions are:

    1. Create an admin account for the Mercury Service: Create account 'Mercury Service'. Make this account member of the group 'Administrators'.

    2. At the Mercury Service set this account for starting the service.

    3. Restart service.

    For Outlook:

When delete the folder use the key 'shift' and click with your right mouse button on the folder for deleting. Select 'Delete Folder'.

If you don't use the key 'shift' Outlook want to move the folder to 'Deleted Items' and that's failing.
