    Points going missing?!?

Now, don't get me wrong here - I'm pretty obviously not in this for the points... But I've just noticed that over 200 of my posting points seem to have vanished! I was standing at over 1000 points last time I noticed, and now I seem to be back to the mid 800s.

Like I say, it's not a big deal, but I *am* curious to know what has happened.

    Cheers!

    Re: Points going missing?!?

I changed the factor values. The points system is a bit experimental, and works like a rewarding or automatic attempt at adding a "seriousness"-value attached with the poster. There are actually three such values: Top poster, is the blue bar, Post Rater, is the yellow dots, and then the signee:s points. I'm uncertain what good all of this info is, along with the memberships etc. - In any case, the left side of posts is often too long, making scrolling a neccesary must, even for one liners.

    Kind regards / Peter

    Peter,
I tried to find some hints on the "points" system ;-) e.g. the "blue bar", the "yellow dots", and then the "post points" - just to understand the rating system.
    Cheers

Gday mate, not an easy question to answer.

In Internet explorer, if you hover the mouse pointer over the symbols, you'll get an explanation.

The blue bar is post rank. Full is among the top ten posters.

    The yellow dots is a rank system, 1. dot equals 1 - 100 posts, 2= <200, 3= <500, and so on.

The points system is different: It is a calculated popularity value based on posts, post ratings, post favourites, personal favourites and some more.

    Kind regards / Peter

    Re: Points going missing?!?

    Thanks Peter,
... as I normally do not use the IE but Firefox I missed out on some of the explanation bubbles and rating indications, sorry. By the way, Firefox displays it with the blue but not the yellow dots.

The "Points" (below the yellow dots) seem to be the sum of the "Post Points" (under the posted message) which however seem to be a more complex measure. If they are based on, as you said, "popularity value", they most likely also have a changing/dynamic component? A post may be 20 today and 35 tomorrow?

For Firefox user. The current settings seem to be:
    Yellow dots
    (1) Member, (2) Participant, (3) Contributor, (4) Star, (5)  ?..

    Blue line dots
    (0) Not ranked
    (1) Top 500 Contributor
    (2) Top 200 Contributor
    (3) Top 150 Contributor
    (4) Top 100 Contributor
    (5) Top 75 Contributor
    (6) Top 50 Contributor
    (7) Top 25 Contributor
    (8) Top 10 Contributor

    Cheers

Its a factor value dynamically calculated on a thread basis as:
    5 Points for a post
    15 Points for a reply
0 points per each individual replier
    6 points rating factor
10 points factor for favourite posts
10 points factor for favourite user
2 points to the rater for rating a post

    tmstein:
    Yellow dots: (1) Member, (2) Participant, (3) Contributor, (4) Star, (5)  ?..

    5= SuperStar (nbr_of_posts >= 800)

    Kind regards / Peter
