    Window arrangement and size

Running PMail running on Windows 7 machine. I usually use it in a window, and have found that internal windows will be automatically sized as bigger than the application window.  This usually means that one or more of these things occur: The Minimize/Restore/Close buttons are offscreen, scrollbars not accessible. If a window (e.g. draft manager) opens, it will be maximized within the main window, but the Minimize/Restore/Close buttons will be missing altogether.

Is there a way of fixing this behaviour?

    Re: Window arrangement and size

Internal window sizes should stick after being sized.  One caveat is that the main window must not be maximized.  You indicate that yours is windowed which is good but for anyone else reading this, a maximized main window adversely affects the saving of window sizes.  Stretch the main window to full size instead of maximizing.

One thing that might help you get control of folder window sizes and layouts is to set a default layout.  To do this open a folder window, size it to your liking (including column widths), then go the the Folder pull down menu and select "Default size and layout".  Select the option to set that folders layout as the default but note the other option.  It's an easy way to apply the default layout to another folder.

Note: The Folder pull down menu is dynamic.  It's only available when a folder window is active.

If you want some folders to open in fixed sizes and locations on every startup then use the "Save Pegasus Mail desktop state between sessions" configuration option to set that layout.  Consider keeping it disabled if you're not good at closing open folders before shutting down Pegasus Mail.  It's in Tools > Options > General settings > Basic settings

Window > Cascade and position/resize the windows as you require.

Next, Tools > Options > Basic settings > and place a checkmark in the 'Save Pegasus Mail desktop state...' Click OK.

Pegasus Mail will then always position the windows where they were before. If you access the computer hosting Pegasus Mail remotely using a screen with a different resolution or if you change the resolution of the the original screen the size/position will appear to change.

Edit: Brian, as ever has the best response :)

Thanks all for advice.  I will try it out.

BTW, a big thanks for providing support and maintaining community site.  Thanks also to those who coded, updated, wrote extensions for, PMail.  This is the first Mail client I have found with the degree of flexibility, and the sorts of bells and whistles I've always wanted.

Brian, I'm not finding a  Folder menu with "Default size and layout" in it. There's a Folders menu up on top, but it doesn't have "Default size and layout" in it.

I just tried Greenman's procedure but it isnt working. Here's how you can replicate this, and try it.:

I took the main window out of Maximized. Then I did a search in my main mail folder, for some emails that I knew would be there. Then I open up the folder that shows the results, and click on the results folder. I then drag the date/time column open, so I can see the dates and times of those results. And yes, my save windows settings has always been checked. Then I close Pegasus and re-open it. I do another search for emails that I know will be there. Then I go to the results folder and the date/time column is still squished together so I cant read it.

    Re: Window arrangement and size

It is a transient menu. You have to be actually using a folder to have it visible on menu bar. Go to your Folders pane, open any folder of your choice, and you'll see the Folder option at the menu.

Is the Recent Search Results folder, considered to be a folder? Because that's not happening. It's also not happening with the folder for Sent Mail.

    Re: Window arrangement and size

An explanation might be that you are opening existing search results folders.  IIRC, their layouts won't change during the current session.  I don't recall whether they do on the subsequent startup.  You should however see the change in new search results windows.

Be aware that the search results window contains a Folder and Score column that aren't in a default layout requiring a stretch or maximization of the window to see them.

I don't use a Sent Mail folder but AFAIK it should behave like any other folder.  Keep in mind that the layout of existing folders will not change to the default layout automatically.  You must intentionally apply the default folder layout to any of them thay you want that way.

    Re: Window arrangement and size

I open the search window, and the date/time is all scrunched up. So I click to apply the default to this window, and it does nothing.
