    vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    Recently when I answer the question, "copy to self" with a "Y"

    it says it is copying, but nothing new shows up in the folder.

    The folder still contains copies of old emails.

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    Two things immediately come to mind that can affect the destination of copies-to-self (besides the configuration option that sets the default copyself folder).

    1.  A copyself filtering rule.  Tools > Mail filtering rules > Edit copy-self filtering rules

    2.  An Autofilter.  You can see the ones that are in place by right clicking on any folder name and selecting AutoFiltering > Manage Autofilter folders

    AW: Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    Hi Brian,

    In general there is no need to create an additional copy-to-self filtering rule. In settings, section "copy-to-self", I have only set my standard folder where all outgoing mails should be copied to, provided this mail folder is available. Because rqakins said that he always get the question for copy-to-self, which he answers always with "Y", I assume there is only a wrong folder defined. This should be checked firstly.

    I need additional filters for outgoing mails only for automatic sorting of particular mails into other folders.

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    I have never set any auto-filtering rules in the past and "copy-to-self" has worked fine.

    I have reset the copy-to-self  folder and still nothing is copied to it.

    Should I re-install Pmail?

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    Did you check for any auto-filtering rules?  It seems they can be created inadvertently based on the number of people who have discovered ones they didn't know existed.

    If it is an auto-filtering rule it may not be associated with the copyself folder.  It could be associated with any folder where the rule is detecting you as the From: and diverting the message.

    You might try sending a test message with something very unique in the Subject line, doing a copy to self, and then doing a header search of the entire mailbox for that Subject content.

    Question:

    If you have the 'copy-to-self'  ask for the destination folder each time does it work?

    May be blowing smoke but something to try.

    I have also activated the "copy-to-self ask". But when Pmail is asking me, I'm not able to change the predefined copy-to-self folder or select a particular folder. I can only press YES or NO. NO means Pmail doesn't create a copy of my outgoing mail, YES meas Pmail is laying a copy of my outgoing mail into the predefined copy-to-self folder.

    My copy-to-self works as expected, including being able to select which folder to put it in (on both v4.72 & v4,73).  Keep in mind that the copyself configuration settings are identity specific.

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    What do you meen by "have folder reset"? You should check the folder for consistency and reiindex it (-> context menue).

    If this doesn't help go into the options and repoint to the copy self folder even if it is already standing there (or may be meanwhile there is another folder pointed to).

    cheers   Olaf

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    When I right-click and try to re-index, I get a message that

    the folder is open and must be closed to re-index. How do I re-index without

    opening the folder??

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    I re-pointed to the copy to self folder. Sent myself an email and

    selected "yes" when asked to copy to self. Email was not copied

    although 3 days ago one message was copied!

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    Made a new directory "Copy-to-self" (with hyphens rather than spaces);

    pointed to it for copies to self;

    sent myself an email;

    answered "yes" to copy to Copy-to-self";

    did not copy!

    Re: vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

    Make sure you do not have more than one folder named Copies to self. If you do - your copies are going to that other folder.

    Reindexing - the folder must be closed before right-clicking the folder in the folder list and choosing the option to reindex.

    Greenman:
    Reindexing - the folder must be closed before right-clicking the folder in the folder list and choosing the option to reindex.

    You may also try mbxmaint_ui.exe from Pegasus Mail's \program\ subdirectory with Pegasus Mail closed. You will need to know the respective folder's filename, though. For finding a folder's filename do a right-click on it in Pegasus Mail and select Folder information from the context menu.
