    Dirty Harry:

    1. Ability to turn off the reply option popup everytime a reply is made.

You used to be able to turn it off. So everyone turned it off. Then they forgot that it was even there. Then they complained that Pegasus Mail couldn't do a whole bunch of useful stuff. So we had to continually tell them to turn it back.

In other words, the ability to turn it off caused a LOT of problems.

    Dirty Harry:

    2. Ability to import addressbooks and messages.  (.eml .msg, comma delimited)

There are good, free, utilities to import address books. It would be too much work for David to try and write import/export filters for various address book formats. Many mail programs do not publish their addressbook formats, so it would be a lot of reverse engineering every time they changes. For addressbooks, try Dawn: http://mysite.verizon.net/zakharin/software/Dawn/

For messages, you can rename .eml files to .cnm and place them in the new mail directory. Pegasus Mail will see them as new mail messages.

I don't know about .msg files.

    Dirty Harry:

    3. Include "AND, OR" logical operators in mail filtering rules.  (from contains katieb OR kathyb OR Kateb move to folder Kathy)

Already available. Set the action to LOGICAL AND or LOGICAL OR. Check the Pegasus Mail help files for the topic "Advanced filtering - flow control and logical operations".

    Dirty Harry:

Also ability to match the addressbook.

I don't know what you mean by this.

It is merely a list scan.  I saw that I can use a dlist to do the same thing.

    Forgot a few suggestions though.

    1. Macros that will randomly pick a line from a .txt file and place it at the bottom of a message as a tagline.

That would be a real nice piece of fluff.

    2. Ability to customize the column headers in the message list for each folder selected.  Don't need a "from" column if

a message rule places all messages from John in the John folder.

Pegasus Mail has had variable signatures since 1991. It's slightly arcane - you have to prepare them in a specific format then compile the file using the Pegasus Mail resource compiler, rescom, but it's not that big a deal. Look up "variable signatures" in the help file.

Doing it from a plain text file would be quite a bit more complicated.

I'm planning a complete rework of the message display logic for v5 - this type of thing should be in there for sure.

    Cheers!

    Hi !

    Rob:

    Dirty Harry:

In other words, the ability to turn it off caused a LOT of problems.

Perhaps some middle ground can be found here. Indeed, add an extra in the right-click panel. Now, in Pegasus Mail, we have folders and mailboxes, so assuming this extra line is added (which could be something like "turn off the reply option" (not very original I know :-))), when right-clicking at the folder level, enabling this option would enable it for all the mailboxes contained in that folder. On the other hand, if the right-click is performed on a mailbox, then the option will only be applied to this mailbox. Also one can go even further by replacing this extra line by adding a new tab in the properties of the mailboxes where we could choose wether or not to enable this option, and if "yes", then we should also be able to choose the options.

    Cheers !

    Ginhead.

There are two extensions I know of that greatly ease the handling of custom tag lines for Pegasus Mail

    • Leon Salter's Plato - http://home.zonnet.nl/l.salters/
    • BitBuilt Software's Thalia - http://www.bitbuilt.net/thalia.html

Both are free tools that allow you to store your quotes as plain text files, then compile them into a Pegasus Mail compatible resource file by clicking a button. Plato works within Pegasus Mail as an extension, and Thalia is an external application.

Thanks for all the suggestions Rob.  Dawn works great but I can't seem to get Plato to work.  It installed fine and the icon appears on the toolbar but it just doesn't pick the line from the file.

Also, pegasus is installed as the default mail client and it fires up just fine when clicking a mailto link but a MSIE popup keeps reporting that it's not installed properly even though it is working.
