Found Files don't delete on exit

I'm running PMail from a SanDisk Ultra thumb drive (same one since forever) on a new (Win (ugh) 10) Lenovo ThinkBook and it's suddenly hanging on to all Search Results folders.. I burrowed down to "folder behaviours" and found the (to me) rather cryptic check box "Default setting for search results folders is "Delete on exit" -- unchecked and rechecked a few times with no result.

I also downloaded the newest version and installed as an update. No help there either. The files can be deleted manually but as trying to retrieve software keys I lost with the death of the desktop means search after search and it's a major pain.

Anything Win 10 can't bugger up Lenovo tries to and I suspect the problem lies with one of them. In accordance with the Win 10 policy of keeping all possible useful information from the user all Control Panel/System will tell me is "Windows 10 Pro." (&"copyright 2019) It will admit that I'm running it as administrator also.

     Any suggestions?

    TIA

I'll post the other new problem elsewhere but in case they go together, I can't get the winged horse's help utility up either. A window appears but it's blank no matter what kind of help I click on.

I do back up the entire PMail folder to another UltraFit, but not as often as I should.

I don't understand whether your problem is that you can perform searches or that you can't open search results folders.  Please clarify.

Also please clarify "hang".  If it is the "not responding" text in the title bar, how long have you waited?  "Not responding" appears way too quickly on Win10.  I believe it is a result of system 'are you there' queries that Pegasus Mail does not respond to when its busy.

As for the search folder "Delete on exit" option.  This simply tells Pegasus Mail not to maintain search results folder between sessions. It will not delete existing search results folders, only ones created since it was enabled.

Re: Found Files don't delete on exit

Perhaps I should have phrased that more simply. Or just repeated the header in the message.

      1. I do a search, or several.

    2. There is now a search results folder in the file/folder list panel, with the results of the search. The folder behaves as usual -- messages can be read in the preview panel.

    3. BUT. I exit Pegasus and when I run it again the search results folder or folders are still there. Fiddling with the setting (incoming mail/folder behaviours/default behaviour for...) had no result. The found files folders remained in their ever-increasing numbers no matter what I did. Check, exit, uncheck, exit, check, shut down and restart, uncheck...

So I started manually deleting the search results folders as they accumulated.

    4. AND THEN... for no apparent reason-- search results folders started behaving as they were supposed to: delete on exit from PMail. So it's now a non-problem and I hope it stays that way.

PS: clarification of "hanging on to (American idiom?):" PMail was not releasing -- i.e., deleting-- found files upon exit. Nothing to do with system hang though like you I'm finding  the new Win 10 laptop deadly slow with almost everything, and it should be far faster than either the Surface (Win 8) or the several years old desktop (Win 7)
