• Re: Filter incoming mail into a folder

Thanks. I did wonder if you might have been thinking of Pegasus, but I use Thunderbird so am not familiar with it. I've been doing it at client level in Thunderbird, but my android device doesn't seem to have the facility and I was hoping to do it at server level. I can see why, on reflection, that it's not really a server function. Anyway, thanks ...

  • Re: Filter incoming mail into a folder

Thank you, Brian, that gave me something to work on. I have realised I only want to filter all mail to one user, not all users. I've created an Alias for the user, and a .rul file. Based on previous successful .rul files I have the first line If ''From'' field contains ''targetdomain.com'', then goto Label1 This is not triggering, as the line ...

  • Filter incoming mail into a folder

I would like to filter all mail from a particular sender so that it goes into a folder, marked as read, rather than my Inbox. This seems an obvious thing to want to do, but I can't see 'move to folder' listed as an action under Global Rules. Please can anyone help?

  • Re: Malicious IMAP login attempts

Thank you both for your replies and comments. Greenman, that's as I thought, but it's only by following up possible vulnerabilities that I educate myself. I'm not seriously worried at this stage, but if I can make things more secure, why not do so? Sellerie, it had occurred to me that an application to do what fail2ban does would be useful, but ...

  • Malicious IMAP login attempts

My MercuryI logs show a number of instances of 'password failure' due to malicious IMAP login attempts. In some cases the user doesn't exist, in some cases the user is valid but the password is wrong (the logs show a previous dictionary attack to find valid names). So far as I know there have been no attempts that have correctly guessed the ...

  • Re: IMAP query - Modification to received messages

Thanks, Greenman. The settings available to me seemed correct, but I was awaiting the original link to do some testing. The sender has now said that the removal seems to have occurred at his end, possibly it's his AM that's over zealous. I'm still a bit puzzled that one email client re-saves the CNM file on the server and the other doesn't, but ...

  • IMAP query - Modification to received messages

I received a message which was sent with a hotlink in it, but the link has disappeared. The sender resent it, and the link was removed again. Investigating, it appears that this is caused by the mail client. When I read IMAP messages on my Mercury server via Thunderbird on a PC, they are not changed and the date/time on the .cnm file in Mercury ...

  • Re: Why '*Job killed by filtering rule'

A move operation triggered by a global filter (ie, in rules.mer) results in the original job being killed (because global filtering is applied before attempting delivery to a mailbox). The manual says: '' If your global filtering rules result in the message being deleted, or moved to another user, then the core module will make no further attempt ...

  • Re: SSL disconnection

Thanks. Yes, I understood you, and checked there were no connections at all and no .lck file when the problem client tried to log in. Although, for info, I have tested with another remote client and in that case it will connect even if there is a .lck file as result of a local client being connected. I suspect it is to do with SSL and will try ...

  • Re: SSL disconnection

Thanks for the suggestion. I have now checked, and the problem occurs whether or not other clients are accessing the account
