  • Malicious IMAP login attempts

My MercuryI logs show a number of instances of 'password failure' due to malicious IMAP login attempts. In some cases the user doesn't exist, in some cases the user is valid but the password is wrong (the logs show a previous dictionary attack to find valid names). So far as I know there have been no attempts that have correctly guessed the ...

  • Programmatic creation of local user account

Hi everyone, I just recently setup for the first time setup Mercury 32's IMAP server. So far so good as I have ''some'' experience with mail servers and it seems to be working fine. I do a lot of software development and after googling for a couple hours could find no insight as to how one would go about pro-grammatically creating user accounts in ...

  • Mercury 4.71 on Windows 2000 Startup/Config problems

I have installed Mercury 4.71 as part of XAMPP. When I start up Mercury, ports 25:SMTP, 79:FINGER, 80:HTTP, 105:PH, 106:TSMUX???, 110:POP3, 143:IMAP are all opened.(as shown by sysinternals TCPview) But ports 25, 79, 106, 110 close real quick, leaving only ports 80, 106, and 80 listening.   My Server has two IP addresses - ...

  • Re: Mercury32 gets slow, login takes very long

I've lately run several tests aginst MercuryI, and what I can see your report generally match my findings. Approx. the following is what I've last week reported to David for examination: It appears that in some cases newly created threads have to finish before allowing existing ones to continue. (this means the opposite of what ...

  • Re: Testing SSL

Thanks, Thomas.I'm making some progress. TLS works, over port 143. The MercuryI session log shows an encrypted session, and clients ask about and accept the self-signed certificate. But the client I need to use on the phone only seems to implement SSL, not TLS, and I can't get SSL to work. Telnet to localhost 993 fails to connect (even with the LAN ...

  • Re: Mercury and Thunderbird - getting mails doesn't work

Peter Strömblad:I'm having a hard time following your question. Is it IMAP that doesn't work? If so, try enabling session logging in MercuryI, and see what goes wrong from one of your client computers. If you see no activity at all, I'd say you have a firewall problem with your 2008 server, not allowing connections over TCP port 143 to Mercury, ...

  • Folders not deleted from IMAPSUB.PM when deleted in Thunderbird

Hi, I'm using Mercury/32 v4.52 with the MercuryI module, but I also experienced this issue with v4.01b.  When I delete a folder in Thunderbird (currently using version, but this has happened with every version since 1.5), it is removed from HIERARCH.PM but not from IMAPSUB.PM.  Thus, the folder reappears, but grayed out and ...

  • IMAP4, duplicates

Some of our users are complaining about duplicate messages when synchronizing their client with our Mercury/32 v4.51 servers. Does anyone else see this behaviour?
