Greenman,
While there may be people in disagreement, for myself I have no problems with the movement to quarantine - however, the two problems that need fixing are very clear and specific:
1. Automatic deletion of files should not be set as a default.
On this matter I have discovered in 'scan results overview' the listing of the which ...

So there we have it - the question resolved, and an understanding of how to prevent the problem from re-ocurring.
But I have to comment (I can't stop myself) - how can it be that the AV producers (who fully understand the risks of deleting files) send out their 'point & click' software, with defaults set to delete?
It's not as if we are now ...

Ok, so here's the bummer,
The two pmm folders are not required - one of which was the folder for undelivered messages - maybe they were auto sent, and refused because of infections.
The two folders I wanted are not there, so I checked AVG8 history log, and it states it found 18 infected files, yet it only quarantined 5 - the others are not ...

Yes - me too.
AVG8 found Crack.S in my adobe creative folder plus:
I-worm/Netsky and I-worm/Netsky.D
Now it found this in an old email, cos it was also in an old backup ie. it must have been one of those emails that never got moved into a folder.
Strange that AVG7 had never found these so called viruses, as it was regulary ...

Thomas,
I've been using pmail since 1992. I know you have been helping people for a very long time. Thank you. (it's nice to see what you look like).
Getting to my problem, This is my home computer (I use pmail 4.41 w/o using mercury). avg had me do the following:

Security = never

After installing avg 8.0 (free) ( including setting avg up to scan) I can't receive any email in pmail 4.41 (shows that scanning is taking place).
Do pmail and avg 8.0 play well together. If not, is avast a good alternative and does it work ok. I have used varios versions of avg & pmail for a long time. (I am running XP ...

I have determined that the Pegasus Mail horse icon that appears in your system tray (bottom right hand corner with clock on your monitor) creates a huge volume of unnecessary network traffic when set to flap its wings to alert you of new mail. You can use the following instructions to be sure that your system is set to not have the wings ...

You don't have to apply it specifically to any MUA. The IMON module checks all traffic.
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=37509 gives a great introduction to NOD and holds your hand through the settings. You don't need to apply them all but they will give you optimum protection until you know the product well enough to tweak it ...

Since about two weeks the first time Pegasus checks a mailbox, there is an error saying:
Pop 3 Network or protocol error
........
Trace showing end of transaction:
5: Connect failed, 6.
Subsequent mail-checkings are fine. This is happening at home and at work, both XPpro--systems. The only two changes I ...

InvaderZim: I hear Trend Micro's antivirus is pretty good and less of a resource hog, and Vista doesn't really need a separate firewall (I have a hardware firewall anyway). I also hear the Microsoft antivirus is terrible. Any other suggestions?
I've been using F-Prot for more than 8 years, both personally and corporately, and have ...
