  • Invalid local addresses sent to user

Recently, we were told be a blacklisting agency that we needed to change the configuration on our server to stop sending delivery failure messages for invalid accounts.  I understand that this is because spam email sent to fake addresses often spoofs their ''from'' header, and someone else gets all the junk replies when their address is ...

  • Mercury Service Queue Hang on W2008

We recently upgraded to Mercury 4.72 and Windows 2008 R2 on 32 bit architecture. Occasionally , under high volumes our Mercury mail Queue is failing to process correctly. The Mercury service seems to be CPU bound, consuming 12%CPU on a Quad CPU for hours. No email is delivered. A restart of  the service un-hangs it and the queue is quickly ...

  • Mercury retries when sending to a Grey Listing receiver

I’ve been looking at the way Mercury handles retries when sending mail. The current procedure involves setting a “Basic minimum period between queue retries”, and using a “progressive backoff algorithm” to calculate job retries.Assuming you set the minimum period to N minutes, the algorithm will do ten tries, one every N minutes, then 10 tries, ...

  • Mercury Memory Leak

We recenrly installed a v4.72 release of Mercury that came as part of the XAMPP package, installed to Windows 2003 Server.  When we have the Mercury package running, the system continually increases memory usage at a rate of about 48K every 2 seconds until memory is exhausted.  The server runs for days without Mercury running at roughly ...
