Hello,

I'm from Germany and we need to work with umlauts (äöüß). Until now, I had no problems replying to emails with umlauts in the display name of the senders email address, but now more and more emails are appearing where the "From" part is MIME-encoded (specifically UTF-8 Base64). When I reply to such an email, the quotes around the name are missing in the response, and I get an error message when sending: '??ser, T??st' is not a valid address... (should be "Üser, Töst"smile. After manually inserting quotes I can send the email. In the from-header it is coded as
=?utf-8?B?w7xzZXIsIFTDvHN0?=
with no quotes. RFC 2047 says, that's OK.
Tried to change "Default MIME-Charcterset" in advanced settings, but no change.
Any ideas or is this a bug in Pegasus?

Bye Philipp

I'm running PM 4.91 on Windows 11. One of my email accounts is on Gmail. I have PM set to tell the server to delete each email after I download it. This doesn't seem to work, so I have to periodically log in to Gmail directly & spend time manually deleting hundreds or thousands of emails. Otherwise, my storage allocation gets filled up. How do I fix this?

Also, there seems to be 3 choices for having PM delete messages:

  1. Immediately - when I hit delete
  2. When I hit delete, put them in the Deleted Messages folder. Then delete them when the session ends.
  3. When I hit delete, put them in the Deleted Messages folder and leave them there until I manually delete them.

I like to keep deleted emails for some time, in case I need to look up an older message, so I have PM set to option #3. This causes the Deleted Messages folder to get really large, since I get a lot of emails. Is there a way to have PM clean the Deleted Messages folder each session by deleting messages that are more than a certain age, like 30 days, 3 months, 6 months?

I'm running Windows 10, PMail 4.80. I have several (about 7) POP3 email accounts, 4 at Comcast, 2 at Gmail, 1 at iCloud (IMAP). So when PMail retrieves my new mail, it takes some time. The Comcast servers seem to be the slowest and PMail spends a lot of time trying to converse with them. During this period, my computer is basically unusable. PMail uses all of Windows' time (or is it the network layer?), thereby preventing any other applications from getting a time slice. As each server interaction is completed, other apps may get a very small momentary interval where they can do something, but then the next email server (usually another Comcast email) gets control and the same thing happens again. The GMail servers seem to respond relatively quickly, so the "dead" period is much shorter, but it's still annoying.

Can anyone explain what is happening and how to fix it? I am going to try to improve the situation by eliminating some of my email accounts, but that doesn't solve the basic problem.

IERenderer Version 2.7.3.8 has been released.

These are the developers' release notes:

  • The most important fix in this version is about insufficient memory allocation in a certain place causing various kinds of crashes hard to track down.· Another fix had to be applied to changing the cache path if not using the recommended default which resulted in falling back to the current Windows user's TEMP directory.
  • Next there's a fix for properly converting WEBP graphics to PNGs for displaying them in all cases.
  • Some unused temporary HTML files are now either not created or automatically removed as far as possible.
  • Also, another MSO idiosynchrasy used for script injection has to be removed for preventing crashes.
  • Error reporting has been fixed with regard to detection of some previously missed timeout cases.
  • And finally the installer has been fixed for getting the uninstall work again.

I am new to Pegasus and I have a problem setting up my POP3 -receiving email settings.
I always get a message: The host claims that either the username or password you have supplied is invalid.
The details say 'OK POP3 ready", the User is '+OK', 'PASS' is presumed OK, but it concludes with 'ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed.
I am at a loss to know how to get my POP3 approved. Any help would be appreciated

I have a gmail account for a long time that I can use without any problems. I just created another one that I needed. While I can log in on the gmail web site for the new email , I can't retrieve any email messages through Pegasus. The error I get is "Invalid username or password". I am using PMAIL v4.80. As far as I can tell, I configured the new PMAIL identity exactly the same as the old (except for the password, of course).

I seem to remember having to do something special with PMAIL a long time ago when gmail increased their security. Does that have to be done for each new gmail address?

Would installing v4.91 help? If so, please send installation instructions.

Thanks.

I have been using Pegasus Mail since the 1990s. I occasionally have had the odd issue, but I am now suffering an issue which may lead me to have to consider an alternative.

The issue is a frequent loss of the Mail Directory Structure, whereby Filing Trays are deleted, and message folders and many messages are dumped into the root of the structure, and some messages appear to be lost.

I am running V4.8, not having become aware of 4.91 although I do check quite regularly.

Is there any advice on offer,
A. To best correct this situation, and
B. To recover missing messages?

In hope,

Kenneth A. Spencer

I would appreciate any help or suggestions the Pmail community might offer. I am using Windows version 4.91. Just this evening, whenever I tried to go into the "copies to self" folder, it wouldn't load, just kept trying. I reindexed the folder. That didn't help. When I checked for consistency, it said there was an issue with the copies to self pmm (or pmi, can't remember now). So I deleted in both the pmi and the pmm the emails I had written that day, which were replies, thinking that they must be the culprit. Now I have three "copies to self" file. One has virtually nothing in it, just a test email I wrote to myself. The other two seem identical and have become massive, over 64000 messages (before it was around 50,000). When ever I try to get into either of those two massive folder, I can't. It just keeps trying to read them. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott

I have been a Pegasus using since the 1990's, using version 4.8 on windows 11 computer. This morning my email received folder was missing. I did find 3 copies of it on the mail folder page under some weird script. I deleted 2 of those odd names there, and it eliminated the entire 3rd folder. How do I find the folder in which email received is stored again? I looked at every .pmm file, and I have 5, but still no luck. Is my entire email received file gone, or hidden somewhere? I do have a file save software but I dnt know what file to pick to restore from yesterday? File New and Copies to self are working perfectly.

I've replied to dozens of messages I'm sure but I wish to reply to a message sent to me by another user, but there are no helpful links marked "reply". So what am I supposed top do?

I am sure there used to be a "Reply" button but no longer?

Pmail version 4.91 IER 2.7.3.5 Windows 10 up to date. 8GB RAM

Every few days Pegasus crashes during the caching of HTML. It is ALWAYS when the status line for IER ends with =>13

It has never had any other number than 13 when it crashed.

Also every time I restart Pegasus, I have to select the renderer. It always defaults to Bear.

There are 3 user mail accounts. They are admin, Jim and Marnie.

None keeps the selected HTML renderer.

Mail is located in C:\pmail\MAIL

There are over 2000 emails in the New Mail Folder of the JIM

There are over 110 Mail folders.

I have mail going back to 1997.

Any suggestions for those 2 issues I have?

I have re-indexed and recovered deleted space on almost all of the folders.

I have screen shots of the file and folder counts under properties of the folders in the PMAIL directory if posting or forwarding would help.

Thanks

Jim

For a specific non-profit social group, I like the "TO" format to be for example, Raymond C Wockley . The question is: How do I enter the information in my address book to make this happen? On a side note, when I make changes to a specific entry in my address book, the correction is noted, but when it is inserted in the e-Mail, the entry goes back to the original and I have to change it manually. Where, the file, is the file found for the Address Book and individual entries???

A recent post contained reference to the IER cache path which reminded me that I had intended to relocate mine to the default location when the change was made that placed it inside the new mailbox directory. I am thinking about doing it now and am wondering what the best procedure. Is it as simple as removing the existing path in the Cache-path setting in IER configuration and restarting Pegasus Mail? Perhaps a reinstall of IER following the removal of the Cache-path setting is needed?
I know that existing cache files will not automatically be relocated.

Hello all,

we installed PM 4.91 on a new Win11 Laptop. Merged all the data from the old one and it all looked good. List of mails etc. until we found out that the body of the mail is blank. However, when you forward the mail, the body appears in the new mail.

It must be something with the display?
IERenderer?

Any help? We use the german version.

Thx,
Peter

I'm sorry, but I have another migration question!

So I'm moving from a 10 year old Win10 to a new Win11 PC.

Location of OLD mail directories;
Home mailbox location: D:\USERS\IAN\MAIL\ICAMERON
New mailbox location: D:\USERS\IAN\MAIL

Location of NEW mail directories;
Home mailbox location: C:\PMAIL\MAIL\icameron
New mailbox location: C:\PMAIL\MAIL\icameron

I installed PMail on the new machine, and copied over my old MAIL directory structure.

I tried the migration a few weeks ago and the new install located all the new emails, but not my existing mail folders. I've tried again today and now PMail displays all my mail folders, but not my new mail.

I'm guessing the issue is that on the old system new emails were stored in /MAIL, and the mail folders in /MAIL/ICAMERON, whereas on the new system its expecting everything in /MAIL/icameron.

What is the best way to resolve this? Copy the entire contents of the old new mail location to the new? Is there a menu setting or configuration utility that can change the new mail directory? Any other suggestions? I also need to consider a structure that would make it easy for future migrations as well.

Thanks all for your help.
