I have been a Pegasus using since the 1990's, using version 4.8 on windows 11 computer. This morning my email received folder was missing. I did find 3 copies of it on the mail folder page under some weird script. I deleted 2 of those odd names there, and it eliminated the entire 3rd folder. How do I find the folder in which email received is stored again? I looked at every .pmm file, and I have 5, but still no luck. Is my entire email received file gone, or hidden somewhere? I do have a file save software but I dnt know what file to pick to restore from yesterday? File New and Copies to self are working perfectly.

I have been using Pegasus Mail since the 1990s. I occasionally have had the odd issue, but I am now suffering an issue which may lead me to have to consider an alternative.

The issue is a frequent loss of the Mail Directory Structure, whereby Filing Trays are deleted, and message folders and many messages are dumped into the root of the structure, and some messages appear to be lost.

I am running V4.8, not having become aware of 4.91 although I do check quite regularly.

Is there any advice on offer,
A. To best correct this situation, and
B. To recover missing messages?

In hope,

Kenneth A. Spencer

Pmail version 4.91 IER 2.7.3.5 Windows 10 up to date. 8GB RAM

Every few days Pegasus crashes during the caching of HTML. It is ALWAYS when the status line for IER ends with =>13

It has never had any other number than 13 when it crashed.

Also every time I restart Pegasus, I have to select the renderer. It always defaults to Bear.

There are 3 user mail accounts. They are admin, Jim and Marnie.

None keeps the selected HTML renderer.

Mail is located in C:\pmail\MAIL

There are over 2000 emails in the New Mail Folder of the JIM

There are over 110 Mail folders.

I have mail going back to 1997.

Any suggestions for those 2 issues I have?

I have re-indexed and recovered deleted space on almost all of the folders.

I have screen shots of the file and folder counts under properties of the folders in the PMAIL directory if posting or forwarding would help.

Thanks

Jim

For a specific non-profit social group, I like the "TO" format to be for example, Raymond C Wockley . The question is: How do I enter the information in my address book to make this happen? On a side note, when I make changes to a specific entry in my address book, the correction is noted, but when it is inserted in the e-Mail, the entry goes back to the original and I have to change it manually. Where, the file, is the file found for the Address Book and individual entries???

A recent post contained reference to the IER cache path which reminded me that I had intended to relocate mine to the default location when the change was made that placed it inside the new mailbox directory. I am thinking about doing it now and am wondering what the best procedure. Is it as simple as removing the existing path in the Cache-path setting in IER configuration and restarting Pegasus Mail? Perhaps a reinstall of IER following the removal of the Cache-path setting is needed?
I know that existing cache files will not automatically be relocated.

Hello all,

we installed PM 4.91 on a new Win11 Laptop. Merged all the data from the old one and it all looked good. List of mails etc. until we found out that the body of the mail is blank. However, when you forward the mail, the body appears in the new mail.

It must be something with the display?
IERenderer?

Any help? We use the german version.

Thx,
Peter

I'm sorry, but I have another migration question!

So I'm moving from a 10 year old Win10 to a new Win11 PC.

Location of OLD mail directories;
Home mailbox location: D:\USERS\IAN\MAIL\ICAMERON
New mailbox location: D:\USERS\IAN\MAIL

Location of NEW mail directories;
Home mailbox location: C:\PMAIL\MAIL\icameron
New mailbox location: C:\PMAIL\MAIL\icameron

I installed PMail on the new machine, and copied over my old MAIL directory structure.

I tried the migration a few weeks ago and the new install located all the new emails, but not my existing mail folders. I've tried again today and now PMail displays all my mail folders, but not my new mail.

I'm guessing the issue is that on the old system new emails were stored in /MAIL, and the mail folders in /MAIL/ICAMERON, whereas on the new system its expecting everything in /MAIL/icameron.

What is the best way to resolve this? Copy the entire contents of the old new mail location to the new? Is there a menu setting or configuration utility that can change the new mail directory? Any other suggestions? I also need to consider a structure that would make it easy for future migrations as well.

Thanks all for your help.

I periodically copy my whole home folder (= My Mailbox) to a back-up drive. (I had originally installed with the ROAM option, so the Home folder was not within the PM folder.) I wanted to find a message I had accidently erased, so I added the back-up folder as a new mailbox. It displayed my 'new mail' but it did not display any of the folders within the original home folder. How do I get access to those folders?

WIN 10 Problem
When selecting a Link in an email, the Link will not activate but there is a workaround but how to configure PMAIL to select HTML when opening the mail.
If the email in the INBOX when opened has the ATTACHMENT option available I select HTLM and OPEN. The selection if a LINK in the now opened email works correctly.
How do I configure PMAIL to select the HTML option when I open an email?

WIN11 Problem
I copied the PMAIL module to the WIN11 computer. Pmail opens and will download emails. When I select a email it opens with the correct headers but there is NO test in the message area.
WHAT IS MY PROBLEM.

Thank you.

I have copied my PMAIL folder intact to a new computer. I expected the program to come up with the same contents in the Folders window. It did not bring in a mail folder I created that contains 30 years of message history in the older Unix format, with file extensions mbx and PMG.

So having read the community thread titled Mounting Old Mail Folder, I followed the recommended procedure. The mail folder was created in parallel with My mailbox, but all the mailboxes in that folder were copied into My mailbox, NOT into the added mail folder in which they reside in the Windows folder heirarchy.

Am I doing something wrong? How do I go about restoring the original folder and mailbox structure from the original installation on the new computer?

Hi PM-Community,

I've found a bug when using "Copy to self"-option "ask at send time which folder to put it in".

PM will not use the selected folder, but the FIRST folder (or personal PMM-file) found in HIERACH.PM or Public-Folders-Trees
with the same (case-insentive) Display-Name.

As I tested, PM will first inspect HIERACH.PM and, if not found there, it will walk through expanded public-folders-trees and put it there into first found folder with matching name.

This happens at least with 4.8 and 4.9, too.

I will now create a script to find matching names and than manual rename each to make it uniq.

TIA for any ideas/clues.

Marc

My email provider intercepts emails addressed to me that my provider considers spam and places them in a spam folder. When I retrieve emails using PM, I don't see anything from the spam folder, and as a result, I miss several emails. This happens frequently. I can access it via webmail, but it's inconvenient to go to webmail separately each time to see if my provider has placed any emails there. So, my question: Can I retrieve the contents of my email provider's spam folder using PM?

Hi, During the years I had to start Pmail from scratch and I have couple of Mail folders, full of old filing trays and folders that I would like to open, and perhaps to incorporate into my v 4.91 version. Is there an easy way to "link" or "mount" them to my Pmail? Very gratefully yours. Gianmaria Fontana di Sacculmino, gfds@fontanafam.org

PMail does not seem to be able to forward an email which only has an HTML part but no text part. Some mail systems show the forwarded message as raw. GMail actually rejects the message as not being RFC5322 compliant.

PMail treats both "forwarded" mail and "bounced" mail in the same way and I get the same errors.

PMail is able to display the original HTML email but if I forward that email to myself, PMail displays it as raw data.

If I forward the HTML email as a attachment, PMail displays it correctly.

I've seen some posts about this on the Usenet group (some going back to 2003) but they never clearly say anything definitive.

Is this a known issue and is there a workaround?

I'll try to make this short. I am running Pegasus Mail 4.91. Something happened while I was trying to attach files to a piece of mail and it didn't send. It froze up and wouldn't do anything. I shut the program down and restarted it thinking that it would clear itself. No good. After a number of attempts to do that, I drew the conclusion that the program itself had gotten corrupted. So I copied the mail folder, deleted the program, downloaded a fresh copy and copied the mail folder into the fresh program. Still won't load and run. The error box that comes up says that there are one or more autosaved messages in my mailbox. Checking either option to get the program finish loading still results in a frozen program. I'm not sure just how to proceed, but some help would be appreciated. I'm guessing that if I knew what file in the mail folder to delete I could probably get this thing to finish loading and it would come up and run. All my business mail and correspondence in on this. If you could give me some help, I'd appreciate it. I am subscribed to the community website, but not with this e-mail address.

I'm currently running V 4.91.1746 on Windows 10 with multiple identities. There are some issues with it that I have not been able to correct (failed connections, not responding during filtering, etc). I have a new computer with Windows 11 where I want to install a new Pegasus with single identity. I will rebuild the POP3 and IMAP connections, filters, etc from scratch on the new install. I want to move only the mail folders from the old system, not the entire PMAIL/MAIL/Admin directory. Can I do that and if so, which ones do I move? Are there any pitfalls to watch for?

Thanks,
Bob
