I have PMail installed with the -roaming and multi-user parameters, and my mail is located in a directory separate from my PMail program directory. I am thinking of moving it to the Dropbox directory, so I can have my mail accessible from both the desktop and the laptop (with the usual precaution of being sure that PMail is closed on the other).
1) is there any known problem associated with this?
2) should I do this from the "general settings / mailbox location tab" in Preferences--where the current installation is given as "<default>"--or should I close PMail, move the file manually, and then do a reinstall of the program, setting the mailbox location through the installation wizard?
3) the Help file refers both to a "main" folder and a "default" folder to which the new mail goes. What are these and how do they differ (as far as I know the "main" folder is just one of many in my folder list).

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

My mom is a Pegasus user, and somehow managed to move her mail reader window so that the title bar and the button bar are off of the parent window (above it). She's unable to use any of the buttons that she's used to, as they're not visible any longer. I'm my family's unpaid tech support, so I tried to figure out how to move that window using the keyboard. The usual "alt-space" opens the system menu of the application (parent) window rather than the reader (child) window. The window can be closed using the ESC key, but the next reader you open opens in the same off-window position.

Since that window opens in the same place even after you close the application I looked for INI files or registry entries that could be updated, but while I found several "xyz Rectangle" entries I didn't find any that contained negative coordinates.

Looking for a way to move that window back fully into the parent window. Suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.

Deleting amassed "Recent Searches"

I have discussed this in the past with Brian F, but I am now getting on in years and I forget things!
I have a "Recent Searches List" that is now 108 items long! Too long!!!
I want to delete all of the entries. If I find and go to the system file that contains all of these searches, and delete all of the entries, what else do I have to delete to get rid of the attached, or referenced, lists of results"

Hello Everyone
another simple question from what appears to be simpleton. I believe I asked before but somehow must have accidentally deleted so please forgive asking again

I'm trying to send a couple of emails which includes attachments but my attachments are taking too long to process. Gets up to around 85% then times out.

How can I extend the timing to extend more so the email can complete the process? Where should I go and do what. Can somebody offer a step by step process

Would appreciate help on this thank you in advance

Using V4.81 for 3 separate mailboxes for 20 plus years and I'm thinking of converting them from POP to IMAP and I'm wondering if there's a simple way to do this?

All three of these mailboxes have hundreds of folders and thousands of emails and I'm hoping there might be a simple way to switch?

Is there a tutorial for this that someone could point me to?

If it's very complicated, is there a way to view old emails in the POP account and just start to use new emails in an IMAP account for one of the users?

Thanks!!!!

Hi, I have Pegasus 4.8 on Windows server 2019 standard evaluation and try POP with Google App Password. I have 2-Step Verification enabled and created App password for Pegasus. I copied it and paste into Internet option - Receiving - password. Copied with empty space and also without empty space.

I have server host - pop.gmail.com
user name xxx.xxxx@gmail.com
port 995
security - via direct SSL connect
no other configuration checked

I also searched google with this issue and I have all correct. But still Pegasus is not able to connect to mail mailbox ...

11:38:03.478: --- 2 Aug 2025, 11:38:03.478 ---
11:38:03.478: Connect to 'pop.gmail.com', timeout 30 seconds.

11:38:04.511: [!] * OpenSSL supplied no extended diagnostic information.

ping pop.gmail.com is ok
telnet pop.gmail.com 995 ok

also I tried disable windows FW

Maybe someone had same issue and there is some trick?

thanks

Just for the hell of it, I installed Pegasus on my Win 8 box. Then, all hell broke loose: all my messages were transferred or downloaded by Pegasus, as expected, but in the process, all my messages were deleted from my Outlook account!!! And that is my principal message client.

How can I retrieve all the lost mail?

First of all, a little history here: I am 83 years old, and was an IT Pro at the University of Idaho for over 30 years and am now retired. I am fairly familiar with most common computer software, and still have no trouble dealing with computer hardware. I and my family have been using Pegasus for many years, probably at least 30.

Recently, I have been attempting to migrate our home computers from Windows to a Unix clone, FreeBSD. So far that attempt has been successful....until yesterday.

I have both Windows 10 and FreeBSD 14.2 in this computer on separate HDDs, and boot into the OPSYS of choice by rebooting the computer, and choosing the OPSYS at that time.

I have been using Pegasus successfully under WINE in FreeBSD. I was using the FreeBSD system for the past three days or so, and rebooted into Windows this morning. Pegasus when running within FreeBSD uses the same mailbox as when I use Pegasus under Windows.

Now, when I try to run Pegasus, after booting into Windows, I get the "locked' message, and when I hit "Continue" the Pegasus opening screen shows for several seconds, then suddenly closes with no messages and no Pegasus.

I have looked at my mail in C:/PMAIL/MAIL/<my user>, and everything is still there, yet can no longer access it.

I have copied the PMAIL.INI.OLD to PMAIL.INI and that does nothing.

How can I fix this issue?

I use the New Mail filtering rules/applied when the mailbox is opened, but I can't seem to get everything to work correctly. I'm not sure if it's me or the app (or both).

Let's start with the blacklist & whitelist.

If someone could answer the following questions, I would appreciate it.

  1. The documentation says that there is a global whitelist which is automatically applied to incoming mail before it is filtered by my rules. I have any email addresses to which I send mail automatically added to this list. However, it seems that in order to actually enforce the list, my mail filtering rules must do it by exiting the filter if the whitelist attribute is set for the incoming mail. Is my understanding correct?

  2. There is no "global blacklist". as far as I can tell. But both a whitelist & a blacklist are referenced in the Tools/Spam & Content Control/Content Control/Definitions/Just Blacklist & Whitelist/Exceptions dialog box. These are supposedly PMAIL distribution lists. Are they automatically checked by PMAIL or do they have to be "List Scanned" in my incoming mail filter to be enforced.

Thanks for any help.

Hello:
I have been using Pegasus Mail for the longest while.
To the point that at one time I have had over ten years of emails from three (and for a couple of years, four) different accounts divided like this:
eg:

2000
inbox - default and accounts 1/2/3
outbox - default account
outbox - account 1
outbox - account 2
outbox - account 3
2001
inbox
outbox
outbox - account 1
outbox - account 2
outbox - account 3

Then one year I decided to archive most of it.
As the archive grew, I realised that it was taking as much space as it was before being archived.
I just did not see them till I needed to.

Eventually, I made a drastic reduction and ended up losing some data I eventually needed so ...
I am now at ten year point again and need to find a suitable solution.

I recall that the archive process needed R+W media (FDD, USB stick or an external HDD) in order to work properly and was wondering if that had changed.

This because I would like to explore the possibility of dumping the archive to a DVD or CD (yes, I still have a reader/writer) and be able to access/search the emails achived on that media by "mounting" it via a Pegasus Mail installation.
ie: just like if it was archived but residing on RO media instead of inside my box taking up HDD space and subject to HDD misshaps.

Properly written quality media will surely outlive me and having more than one copy is probably insurance enough.
The important thing is that the archive be indexed just like Pegasus Mail folders and searchable.

Any idea as to how to get that done these days?
Thanks in advance.
Best,
S.

Hello:

I have been using Pegasus Mail for the last 25+ years.
Being able to run it in a Linux box under Wine was the deal breaker for my permanent move away from MS software over ten years ago.

Always worked perfectly and reliably, to the extent that I still run the 32-bit 4.70 version, never an issue.

But that does have a drawback: the absence of problems over the years has meant that I have developed little or no practise in Pegasus mail problem solving.

To the point:

My Devuan Linux system runs with a two card / three monitor setup and today the right monitor went south.
One of my two old but reliable SyncMaster 940n monitors finally gave up the ghost.

As a temporary replacement, I set up an also dated but practically unused Phillips 1024*768 P150S but now I find that when I start Pegasus Mail it is nowhere to be seen.

I know it starts because if I shut down the system and reboot, on restarting Pegasus Mail I get the usual 'in use' warning meaning that I shut down the system without properly closing it, so it was open albeit not visible to me.

I understand that Pegasus Mail registers its last position on screen when closed and opens in that same position when opened again, but that position (within the right monitor) is no longer valid which is probably why I cannot see it.

How can I edit / delete the registered position so that it will open where I can see it?

This is Pegasus Mail under Wine in a Linux box, so no Windows (?) so
solutions will apply.

Edit:

I made a back-up copy of /home/userid/.wine/drive_c/PMAIL/MAIL/ADMIN/state.pmj, deleted the original and restarted Pegasus Mail.

The only thing that changed was the position (from left monitor to centre monitor) of the start up screen (with the usual mailbox locked notice).

But that was all.
I still cannot see Pegasus Mail.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

S.

I would love to be able to delete attached images I've already saved from my Pmail messages. I go to attachments, hit delete icon, get warning message, delete, see size of message go from megabytes to a couple bytes, go to message window and size of message is again megabytes and attachment is still there.

Any suggestions would be welcome. It would reduce the size of the Pmail files by gigabytes if I could only delete large attachments!

Image 2 is screenshot of attachment window AFTER the image file is supposed to have been deleted.

TIA,

This just cropped up recently. Pegasus says the e-mails are sent but they're not received and there's no bounce back message. I figured I'd ask here if anyone's encountered this problem.before trying to get Bluehost involved. There's nothing indicated in the pmail log. I CAN send to gmail addresses using gmail as the smtp server

I am using POP3 to collect mail on 3 different servers, TWC, Google and Yahoo (for 2 different mail addresses). Connection to the first server (Google (OAUTH2)) collects mail and starts the new mail filtering process. I can watch the progress window go through the "Getting mail headers" and "Applying mail filtering steps", then the second server (Yahoo) gets a timeout error:

Setting SNI hostname to 'pop.mail.yahoo.com'
OpenSSL reported error during handshake - 1/5 ...
* OpenSSL supplied no extended dialog information

After that timeout, server number 3 (TWC) retrieves mail and goes through the filtering process. Then Yahoo is opened again for the second email address but get the timeout error described above.

When I go back and use the "Check your POP3 host for mail" icon, mail is retrieved successfully for the first timed out server 2 but fails again on the next server. I have to go back and select mail a third time to retrieve all my mail.

This pattern is consistent and the timeout seems to follow the filtering process of new mail.

Any ideas?
