Thank you, Guy, was not aware as to what that was about, my guess was incorrect, or maybe 'hope?'

Yes, I do use the three panel Preview.  Will check out what you suggest.  Have also noted when opening the Tools/Options for reviewing the settings and various other features, there are not any of those three little boxes for expanding, iconizing, nor closing.  Clicking on that window or dragging and dropping it still will not produce those controls, even double clicking not work.

WOW!  What reading and understanding will do for you if it just would happen.  I have been looking in the PMail Preferences and settings for that Window you referenced, MenuBar/Window is where it is, just never looked up above the Icon Bar. DUA! Dummy!  That is a fantastic feature, READ the screen, not just what you want.  DA!! BAG!

One last parting question, why when the Pegasus Icon is PINNED to the task bar the ICON for the open program is separate (?)  instead of combining the PINNED and the open Program?

Greetings again,

Select "Tools/Options/Incoming Messages/Message Reader/Help there is a selection for Reading Mail with 'See also' where there are three selctions, second one is, "Message Reader Tutorial" which brings up a screen as follows:

"Introduction to the Pegasus Mail Message Reader

This tutorial describes the basic functionality of the Pegasus Mail message reader.
Click on each of the numbers for a description of that item - we recommend that
you click on the numbers in order the first time you use this tutorial.

You can click the tabs in the graphic above to switch the focus of this tutorial
to the description of that page.

Remember, you can always get help in Pegasus Mail by pressing the F1 key".

On the third line in the above quotation from the HELP file, "Click on each of the numbers for a description . . " there are not any numbers to click.  What you see is all that shows within that part of the HELP file reference to a tutorial that cannot be accessed.  Pressing F1 just takes you to the next selection in the left panel of the open HELP file which is Message Reader Options.

Or again am I missing some part of the instructions?

bfluet:

Excuse me for not getting back to this any sooner.  Have been working on getting my system back in normal operation.  Had lost the function of the laptop keyboard plus a wireless Microsoft Keyboard and mouse.  Took several days because the only way to enter any verbiage to request assistance or any other operation on the laptop.  One character at a time by clickiing the mouse, marble mouse wired, not an option you would like to be tied to especially on a forum.  That has been cleared, no thanks to Microsoft's Tech Support by telly nor even the web.  Both advised me to purchase a newer keyboard.  Did not do that, I fixed it myself.

That 'tattle-tale' window just was taking a little more time than I thought it should, I guess.  There have been some occasions where it just would not go away so clicked on it to close.  Plus friends and family have had other problems with their computers that required some attention.  I am a troubleshooter', 'analyst', repairer of all sorts of problems plus an experimenter thrown in as an after thought.

Thank you for shedding some lite on that subject

finally figured out the problem.  My isp changed the smtp.emailname.net to mail.emailname.net.  It would have been nice if they had alerted me to the change.  It is now fixed.

Thanks for your response.

Bobbie
Thank  you for the assistance, I had that box checked, "Add this variant of the default signature upon message creation" and discovered it was not saved.
If you use different Identities, the setting can be different for each one.  So you will have to check the box in all Identities.

Thank you for this information.  I have not been able to make any copies as yet, that will be my next project for today.  There are some e-mail there that is important to me only, my Wife passed on Mother's Day this year. Just is a little heck-tech here along with changing back to Pegasus Mail after 2.5 years on a client that just was not up to the standards that are met by PMail.  At 72 and still functioning as a user as well as a problem solver for another on computers and some other things that I have developed skills to troubleshoot and make corrections to restore functionality.  Just a tinkerer along with being a very curious animal, want to learn why not just repair or restore.  When it comes to programming that is necessary to remain in the hands of a programmer.  Not something I want to get into.

Again a very large Thank you and have a better day now and in the days to come . .

P.S. Do not find the 'Enable E-Mail Tracking' in profile.

Glad it's working.

I'm riding my Kawasaki motorcycle today and dropped my keys which settled on top of the cylinder heads under the fuel tank .  Talk about intractable... <G>
There is a "Default timeout for

network connections" on the main Internet options screen and there is a

timeout setting for each host (SMTP & POP3).  The timeout setting in the host configuration takes precedence when set to anything other than zero.  Some folks have had to set a timeout

value as high as 300 while others have no problems with the default of

30.  Setting the timeout value higher than you need can cause problems so a little trial and error may be needed.
I am running into a problem in which the POP3 host sometimes doesn't respond, resulting in delay when waiting for timeouts.  Then I can try again.   A previous timeout is not an indication that the server is unavailable, so short timeout are advantageous because a subsequent attempt will usually work.   A 10 sec. timeout works as well as a 45 sec. timout -- it either "takes" or doesn't "take".   So a short timeout is very advantageous.

The problem is with large files.  If the timeout is too short, an otherwise successful POP call fails.  Specifically, the large email displays a % of download countdown and eventually times out before completion.

I don't mind waiting for the fat email to download (unless it's a spam), but I don't know how to shorten the initial POP3 timeout without causing a large email to also timeout.  (I know about the file size limit option, but I actually *do* want to download these up to the ISP's limit.)

How can I adjust the initial POP3 call timeout but still allow downloads to complete?

What you saw was Pegasus Mail attempting to recover deleted space in that folder.  Apparently something went wrong during the process.  You should check the folder consistency and perhaps reindex it.

I recommend reading the help file on this topic.  Find it by going the Help > Help index then under the Index tab locate the topic called "Reindex folder"

Greenman you are right - I am the only user of this laptop and nobody is changing screen resolution but ty for the thought.

Brian I was skeptical but i recreated the problem and the scroll bar fixed it. I don't know why I did not notice that myself when the problem happened on its own. Anyway thank you.

Thanks, Paul.

The first thing I did was to check for filtering rules but neither of them have any rules set up. If it happens again I will check the .cnm's.

Cheers!

I'm needing some help because I am rewriting an old template that I've used and here's what I need it to do.

Most people nowadays are using HTML mail. Previously when I send user mail with important headers to a support group, all I needed to do was append the message inline.

But now, I've decided that I'd rather click on a mail, and have a template that will pop up which will forward the mail as an attachment, including any of its attachment.

=== (appending a message inline)

include message 0 keyheaders

===

I don't want the email message inline, I want it attached. It will have included instructions and will be sent to appropriate help contacts.

=== (attaching an attachment from disk, not what I want)

string v1 ";4.pdf;tone.pdf;design.pdf" "Which file?" 0 list

set to = ~f
set subject = "Your Instructions"
set confirm-reading = "N"
set copyself = "N"

insert "~z"
insert "Thank you for your message.~z~z"
insert "The attached files will help you with your inquiry.~z"
insert "If you have further questions, just respond to this message.~z"
((((((etc)))))))

include c:\pmail\mail\dig\tonehelp.txt 0
attach "c:\\docs\\etch\\~vv1~"
===

So again, I want to click a mail message and raise a template where that mail message will be attached and forwarded to the help group. The Pegasus Mail help files allow the message to be added inline but that will break attachments like photographs, etc.

I know how to forward emails as an attachment with added text, but then doing so the manual way, I have to choose the addresses for the TO line, and also must paste a template of information about the attached mail into the new email.

What I really want is a template, so the intended groups can be chosen from the drop down, and a greeting will be inserted, introducing the attached message and further inserted text will request help resources to reply directly to the attached mail.

The only part I cannot figure out, is what string of text to put into the template, that will attach the original message. I have no problem formatting the outgoing inserted text.

Thanks for help with the template!

 Jahn

Create a new folder named "Copies-to-self".

Search for ALL the messages in the old "Copies to self" folder:

Select the old "Copies to self" folder in the Mail folders pane.
Edit > Find text (Ctrl+F)
In the dialog: Search folders for text
Text to search...
*
...search type
Regular expression

Folder(s) to search
Search the current folder only

No other contraints

The search should find ALL of the messages, even the ones apparently
not visible when the "old" Copies-to-self folder is viewed.

Select ALL of the messages in the search results folder and copy them
to the newly created "Copies-to-self" folder.

Select the new "Copies-to-self" folder as the
"Default copy-to-self folder name" at:
Tools > Options | Outgoing mail > Copies to self ('outbox')

Verify proper operation of the Copy self control by sending
an email with the option selected.

If all is good, rename/delete folders and search results as desired.

I have seen that solution used when you're unable to see messages that were previously in the parent folder (tray?) I was reluctant to try it where messages in the child or sub-files were not retrievable.   I know the messages still exist and I did not want to do anything that might lose them forever. I'll search this site for instructions on how to do the hierarch.pm rebuild.  Thanks for your help.

There is the indication "authentication required".
Does the POP3 definition function (can you download mail)?
If so, in the SMPT definition try "Login to the SMTP server using... From this POP3 definition"
Tools > Internet options... | Sending (SMTP)
Select the definition, press Edit
See the Security tab
