If you want to allow your users to be able to use your SMTP server from outside you will want to require authentication (the "Only Authenticated SMTP connections may relay mail" setting).   This will require creating a mail password for each user.

Yep, that's correct, only the "switch user" option is gone, and you can still have more than one user. However the switching thing is exactly what I found to be annoying and time consuming, hence the "shortcut" with identities instead of having multiple desktop shortcuts. And I have to admit, that's even handier than the previous "switch user" option.

To reload the server you will need to do something like this.

1. In Pegasus Mail menu Tools/Internet Options select POP3

2. Click on Disable button for server. This will stop any further downloading to your PC

3. Go to folder holding all the messages you want to return and Bounce each message you want to reload to the server, using Forward menu button and check "Forward without editing" button, then click Send Forward

4. Repeat 3. for all messages you want back on the server

5. In Tools/Internet options, click POP3 tab

6. On the server definition you disabled in 2. above, click Edit.

7 Uncheck button "Delete on Server"

8. Click OK, then Click Enable button, to re-enable the POP3 service. Click OK to save definitions.

You will now be collecting incoming mail on the server until you either delete them in another mail client or use Selective Download feature of Pegasus Mail.

I don't know whether the drag and drop problem is system wide or Pegasus specific but here are a some thoughts...

  • A sticking Esc or Ctrl key will cause drag and drop to fail.
  •  I read that in Win7 you can't drag and drop to/from applications running at different privilege levels (one running as admin).  I don't use a Win7 PC so can't test to verify.

If problem is system wide:

  • There is a security setting in IE8 & IE9 that affects drag and drop behavior.  Verify that it is enabled.  The setting is located in Tools>Internet Options>Security tab>Custom Level>Miscellaneous

heading>"Drag and drop or copy and paste heading".

  • Test in Safe mode.  If it works then look for an issue with a driver or a utility/application/service that runs at startup.

Cool, thanks. I've tried the content control setting, and I'm still seeing the delays. I'll have a go at the log....

For what it's worth, I have found one other post with a problem similar to mine - it's titled "Pegasus has gotten incredibly slow in processing incoming emails" by Stan Lekach on 20 October 2011 (not sure how to directly link posts?)

In the interest of marking this thread resolved, just thought I'd report that all is still well post upgrade.  My original concern with doing it was that I didn't have a test system to see what the upgrade would do, so if something funny happened in my main network install (which is accessed by 30-ish people) it would have been unfortunate.

Thanks.

Thanks.  You have solved my problem.

The solutions appear to be:

1. Tools > Internet Options > Receiving (Pop 3) > Idle UNCHECK

and

2. Tools > Internet Options > Receiving (Pop 3) > Edit > General > Scheduling SET TO ZERO

Now all three of my buttons respond instantly WHENEVER I click them.

Thank again.

Hello,

Firstly we need some information from you. Do you use IERenderer or Bearhtml to display html messages? Keying in Shift + F1 key should show which product and version you are using.  Secondly please provide me with a sample message that demonstrates the problem. Please forward it as an attachement to irelam@telus.net  I will forward it on to Michael (IEREnderer author) if my Bearhtml is not involved.

There are a few commercial programs to do this  type of conversion.

Great points!  I was having a similar issue and found as long as messages were under 5mb the problem went away.  Unfortunately with the larger messages it will take the extra step, so I've just been telling people who send me large attachments to upload it to dropbox or google drive (both are free) and send me the link.  Good luck!

I have been using Pegasus mail for a long long time now, and this is my first issue ever ...

Once again, thansk for taking the time and trouble to reply and fix it for me
If this is not a bug introduced with 4.63, how can I track and resolve it? (OS is Windows 7, fully updated.)
64-bit or 32-bit Windows? Which browser? What does the commandline look like?

putty at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html is a nice telnet alternative for vista, and can be used for checking pop servers, but not always. It is important to try port 23, or switch putty to telnet and it will use port 23 for a true telnet style pop server test.
