Thomas: that is amazing support! I went back to Pegasus, created a new message to myself, and noted that it went into the Queue Manager. A good sign.

Then I pulled up the support email that I had dumped tnto the Draft Manager, tried to send it, and it also headed off into the Queue Manage.

Told them to send, and off they went. [:^)]

Truly, I did not see any difference between what had originally been the settings, and the ones created by the Wizard. But either the wizard waved a magic wand, or Pegasus decided that if you were being called in to consult, it had better behave.

I am sure it was the latter. [:D]

PS: if ever I run into the problem again, I will check those SMMTP settings, and come back here, crying, with all the gory details. Have a good weekend.

Hi,

I originally typed in 4.63 when I was writing the above post but then thought to confirm it and found I had 4.61 and then found a page on here somewhere that sadi 4.61 was the latest download but obviously not.

Regardless I have downloaded the 4.63 file and installed it and the problem is now fixed, all the links work as they should. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

 Regards,

Terry
did the trick. Any ideas how this could happen or how to prevent it?
I don't see any problems with what you sent to my "inbox" (not a good idea, BTW, because I never get notified about any submissions and it's just by chance whether I check it or not): After removing the existing X-PMFLAGS line Pegasus Mail opens the message properly for me. Please forward the CNM-file (from the new mail directory, see Help => About Pegasus Mail => Info for path information) to <beta-reports [at] pmail.gen.nz>.
Is there really that much difference between 4.53 and 4.63 that this will solve the problem?
Of course not, we're just releasing new versions for fun and confusing users [6], but without you testing we'll never find out. Would you give it a try, please? For details , it's a TER/HTS version issue which should have been fixed by version 4.62 already. And no, you cannot use the updated TER/HTS modules with an outdated Pegasus Mail version, sorry.

I think I have a sense, why David doesn't want it. I think he would have to completly rewrite the way mails are displayed.

For imagination have a look at that (it's the second example) starting with content-type in main header:

  • multipart/alternative
    • text/plain
    • multipart/mixed
      • text/html
      • application/pdf
      • text/html

Funny [:S]

   Olaf

P.S. I'll mark this thread solved - even if there is no solution, but I have an explanation.

I don't think your maildata has gone ... but Pegasus can't access it.

You're using Win7. Did Pegasus run there with that configuration before? Normaly it can't be:
WINPMAIL.EXE directory: C:\Program Files\PMail\Programs
Home mailbox location: C:\Program Files\PMail\MAIL\Admin
New mailbox location: C:\Program Files\PMail\MAIL\Admin
With Win7 Microsoft changed some policies: you have no rights to write anything in a directory within "C:\Program Files". So minimum the mailboxes have to be installed somewhere else, i.e. "C:\MAIL" or you may install the complete Pegasus in i.e. "C:\PMAIL".

Did you have a look at "C:\Program Files\PMail\MAIL\Admin", if the files of your mailbox are still there? If so ... backup them somewhere else.

Then we will see ... tbc
Method 1 (if the message editor window is sized such that it obscures all of the addresses in the address book when the message editor opens):

Method 2 (if addresses in the address book are visible after the message editor opens):
OK ... you prefer classic mode for viewing. I had preview mode. Changed all to your choices  (classic mode, alias in addresslines and doubleclick on addressbook entrance opens maileditor) and can't reproduce your falt at all! :-(((
For what it's worth, I can replicate the "any double-clicked address opens a new message editor window" behavior by doing the following:P.S. One thing about my setup: It's not what you'd call "standard"...Many years ago, on one of the upgrade cycles (maybe from 2.x to 3.x), the way address book windows opened got changed, and although the previous functionality kept working as long as the previously-opened address book was never closed, closing the old-style address book caused that look to be gone for good...as a result, my "desktop.pm0" file has remained unchanged for...oh, at least 8 years.
I assume that's the problem. I don't even remember the old addressbook style ... must have been PM2x to PM3x at maximum! I can't change to that old style in any Pegasus im just working on. I can't believe David will fix this problem ... he won't be able to reproduce and test it. "Upgrade" to "new" (oops - since about 10 years :-) style of addressbook - sorry. That problem will be fixed that way.

This is invalid since the UNC path must include both the server and share name of the system containing the program.

\\tstephenson\c_drive\pmail\programs\winpm-32.exe -ms -a

Is the "Jadeserver" c: drive shared as "C"?

I generally never install the program more than once, on the server only.

This means that Pegasus Mail is not looking at a mailbox structure that contains more than one user.  In your case is looks like you are not point at the mailboxes on the server.

Correct.  Can you do a directory of the mailbox from the workstation

Dir \\Jadeserver\c\Pmail\Mail

and see all of the use mailboxes?

> I have tried all kinds of combinations on both Server path in PCONFIG

1. Verify that the path you are using is correct.  The "Server" and "Volume" must match the system and share name assigned to the server.

2. The users must have read/write/create access to their mail directory and at least read access to the Pegasus Mail program directories.

The startup process is pretty simple.  Pegasus Mail reads the pmail.cfg file in the program directory to find both the pmail.usr file and the user mailbox.  It reads the pmail.usr to verify the user and then goes to the matching subdirectory and looks for a pmail.ini file.  If either of these fail for any reason you get the user not found.

To Thomas - my original post already said I had tried deleting Recently Used entries - that doesn't work.

Olaf - you got it!  I had a check in the "addressbook" portion of autocompletion, so Pegasus was grabbing the first address that matched! Screen shot of the setting attached, I think.  NOW it is unchecked.

Thanks.
Has anyone run across this before?
Yep ... and allways there has been a wrong definition in my rules or misunderstanding about the result of a special definition.

Hmm ... which version of Pegasus did you use before? Maybe a version without SPAM-halter? Is SPAM-halter activated ? Pegasus first executes SPAM-halter (which you should have some training with like in all other mailprograms with automated junkfilters) and than your filtering rules. Training can i.e. be done in preview mode via the "traffic light" at right of the informationbar above the messagepreview. You have to reclassify false positive or negative. After some weeks of training SPAM-halter worked about 99,9% correct for me.

BTW: Up to date would be PM463
