Quite right, drakken.

It is as silly to say "my way is the only right way" as it is to say "your way is always wrong". Different people use programs differently and have greater or lesser needs. What would be better is to have an option to choose when the filtering happens, if possible. As you've already put this on the suggestion forum, it was pointless raising it here.

1. New Mail folder never closes. Email messages are delivered from your POP3 server to it. Then messages are distributed to various folders according to the rules you set up. Any messages not handled, are processed by the default rule and moved into the Pegasus Mail Default folder, see Menu: Tools/Options/General Settings/Basic settings --> Default folder

2. To create and use a subroutine:

  In rules processing,

 • If you haven't already, add a rule "Always trigger "Action "Exit ruleset" to end main ruleset coding
 • Add a Label (with parameter set to a meaningful name to mark the start of subroutine)
 • Add multiple rules as required
 • Add rule Always Trigger action "Return from Call"

In your main rule add a rule "Always trigger" which has an Action of "Call" with the parameter set to the Label created above.  You will need to use the big arrow (on the side) to move this Call statement above the "Exit ruleset" rule.
The Pegasus Mail help system can explain in more detail how to do all this.

I do not know what is happening here.  It might be that the local cache is messed up.  Right click on the folder and clear the cache.
Hi Thomas,

I tried both "Refresh this Folder" and "Cache all messages" options on right-click menu, but no success.

My idea is to provide a single IMAP Profile(user) to which my family members will login from outlook and move their messages to, and then logging in to Pmail, create their own trays/folder structure as required and copy back all the moved messages.

Thanks & Regards,

Rad.

I don't regard this as a false alarm, just a different issue to figure out ...

I'm not at all sure what happened now that a new one was created.  Use the search function (CTRL+F when in the folder listing) and look for a message that you know is in the copy self folder.

1.  If you find it then the folder still exists but the hierarch.pm file has become corrupted and so the folder does not show up on the folder listing.

2.  If the search does not find any message that you know is in the copy self folder then you'll have to revert to a backup.

> All help very gratefully received.  Please keep it simple - I am very untechnical.

Try  the following procedure.  This has worked for several others to restore
the functionality of the  message folders by replacing the hierach.pm:

1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info to determine your mail
    directory.  Exit Pegasus mail.

2.  Rename the file HIERARCH.PM in your HOME mail directory to
    HIERARCH.SAV.

3.  Run WinPMail.  Your HIERARCH.PM will be re-created and should
    start working correctly.

Note:  This will delete any tray structure you have created and it
will have to be recreated.  The process will not affect any
mail of mail folders you have, it only affects the display of
           the folders.

Thanks, I recieved the sample message and have reviewed it. I can confirm the graphics problem. On looking at the source for the message, there appears to be some truncation and general corruptions. Things like www becoming just ww and various html tags being apparently mis-spelled.

I then notice that AVG version 11 is injecting lines into the message headers block, which indicates that someone in the sender to recipient chain is using real-time AVG email scanning. This is likely the problem. I would suggest that if it is you, then turn off/disable email scanning on AVG's config panel. It causes interference with Pegasus Mail extracting and preparing email message parts.

Just to clarify what Thomas said, assuming that you have managed to set up an HTML "formatted content" signature set, it will only be used if the message you send uses formatted content itself (bold text, coloured text, different fonts, etc) or the Rich Text tickbox near the subject line is ticked by your wife. Otherwise Pegasus thinks you are sending a plain text message and uses the basic version of the signature.
One (only one) of the users has lately experienced frequent crashes apparently at random; sometimes creating mail, sometimes downloading, sometimes sending.  It reportedly happens 2-3 times a day.
Any distinct change before this started? An unexpected connection termination? A new AV scanner? A new printer (driver)? A Pegasus Mail update?
In all cases, Pegasus gives the nondescript "encountered an error and had to close" message.
Windows generates this message, not Pegasus Mail.
In November, I saw 17 winpm-32.exe events. 14 were just like the above, one was pointing to the same dll but some other address, one pointed to kernel32.dll, and one was simply an "unknown" dll.
The known ones are Windows core modules, it's unlikely (though not impossible) they cause the trouble.
Any suggestions about how to troubleshoot further?
A couple of , last resort would be generating a crash dump.
Sounds like something is holding these open or you do not have full rights to the files.  With Win7 User Access Control it's quite possible that you do not have the rights to delete these files in the protected "Program files" directory.
At least when running as admin you can do so, but you'd still have to confirm the permission request for doing so.

Well, guys, I'm outta here. My reasons for changing mailers have dissipated, and I just don't have time right now to fool with it. Thanks for all the help. Maybe some other time. You guys are the best!

I misread your last posting, thinking that the error reports had been received.  Apparently that is not the case.

I have just filed another error report, and sent separately  a compilation of four error reports.

Today I was able to bring up the "Junk Mail" folder and sort through it for about two minutes before I encountered an error.  You should have today's error report.

Once again, I appreciate all your help.

> file. But I do not want to mess up Pegasus Mail by deleting files it is expecting to exist.

Checkout Han v.d. Bogaerde's Pegasus mail Links at
He has provided a lot of information on Pegasus Mail for Windows including all filenames and file extensions.

*.PNX         WinPMail v4.0+

PNX files are the RTF version of the message bodies of any queued and draft messages that contain formatted text. The name part of the file is the same as the corresponding .PMO or .PMX or .PMW file. There should be no .PNX files without a corresponding other file.

I really doubt that this is a virus in the file that has been setting around for 8-9 years, more likely that the anti-virus software is messed up,  but you can delete it.

Hmm, very odd, the user reports it is now working, without (apparently) anything changing.

Sorry to waste your time.

I've marked my question as resolved.

thanks,

Ian.

Become that identity and go into the POP3 setup using Tools | Internet options | (Receiving)POP3 and hit the add button.  Go through all of the POP3 setups you see there and edit then to check their configuration.  Delete all those that are no longer necessary.

Unfortunately, I'm still getting the same error message.  Tried different browsers to make sure it was not a browser-specific problem.

The error message does not suggest that this is timeout due to slow server response:
