After doing some additional investigation, I decided to try Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7 (IR1) with caching enabled on the client late yesterday. It's still disabled on the server. At the end of the day today, I have not yet found any evidence of database corruption and I haven't seen any issues with Pegasus 4.52 using the latest client.
Well, until now I used Pmail under C:\Program Files (x86) without problem (I installed Win Vista 2 yaers ago or so), by giving Modify and Write permissions for MAIL subdirectory! Why now, with 4.52, it doesn't work anymore?
It's a compiler/linker issue (said someone who knows better): Since 4.52 has been compiled with a more recent version of the Visual C IDE it got "elevated" to claiming to be fully VISTA (and later) compliant which it actually isn't as it still writes user data to UAC protected directories if installed to a Program Files path. If it wouldn't claim the former Windows would simply "virtualize" these directories without anyone noticing (which happened with 4.51), now it just stops working properly without telling anyone what's going wrong: Security fighting usability, once again, unfortunately ... (both are important enough, of course!)
Some external mailservres will allow proxy on port 80 (http / web browsing) Fastmail & Gmail does look at their documents for instructions.
My current work will not allow any pop3/imap unless from preconfigured servers (internal only). This is not limited to Pegasus (Sylpheed, Mulberry & Alpine) all have the same problem. Proper firewalls for inside a corp network.
I am afraid you will have to wait. There is currently no program access to the foldering system within Pegasus Mail. But all is not lost. The new mailstore is coming soon, and it seems to offer more control to the user for folders.
There is a file called bpanel.txt in the Resource directory (c:\PMAILl\Programs\Resource in my case), which you can use to create the toolbar.pm file. You can also search this forum for posts/threads about "toolbar.pm".
I would start by confirming that the problem *is* spamhalter. Disable it completely and see what happens. Then step through any active Content Control sets, and also your mail filters and autofiltering. Any of these may be responsible (though the final one is unlikely otherwise all of the messages would be redirected to the same place).
Likely there is some wording or phrase in certain of the messages (or headers) which is being picked up on and filtered. turn everything off, test, then re-activate bit-by-bit. Laborious but specific. Let us know what you find.
I am killing a process with the same name as the main one--winpm-32.exe. As for a pattern, it may be that this occurs (sometimes) when a character is first typed in the To field, and at least once this happened after Pegasus was invoked with a "File/Send Link" menu choice from Firefox. I have also seen a process called W???PICK.EXE sticking around at the same time.
It would really help to find a distinct patter. How often does this happen? Did you consider changing your WinSock settings as suggested in the other thread I pointed to before (Go to Tools => Options => Advanced settings and set Load
Windows Internet Services ... to Always, then restart
Let me understand things: you want to configure Hotmail to display mail from an account that you normally download using Pegasus?
The abilities, limitations and settings of Hotmail are not what we discuss on this forum. I'm sure Hotmail can do what you want but you would not need to change anything in Pegasus (with the possible exception of leaving mail on the server, depending on your situation).
Perhaps I am wrong about what you are trying to do, in which case please post again with more information.
> How can I import these e-mails from folders on the laptop to the same named, or different, folders on the desktop? I do, of course, have a > network between the two machines when at my home desk.
Since you are networked you can use "Add mailbox to list" and point at the mailbox directory on the desktop. This now is an added mailbox on the laptop. You can then create folders on the desktop and move the mail into these folders. You cannot move folders between mailboxes, it looks like it works but it does not.

I have a similar requirement, which has a simple solution -- I created identical installations of Pegasus on my two computers (same directories and folder names) and run a (free) synchronization program called AllwaySync which keeps these two copies of Pegasus identical whenever I need to switch between one system and the other.
I use AllwaySync to keep all my data available and current when I travel with the laptop and then return home; not just with Pegasus..
Look at www.allwaysync.com/ The program is free for non-commercial use.
> Of course, I need help! But well, if someone on the internet tells you to delete stuff, you should not follow that blindly.
You are not blindly asking on the internet, you are asking on a support group. You are getting answers from knowledgable people, if someone makes an error with an answer there will be 3-4 people who will followup with corrections. If you continue to ask for second opinions it will just mean people will not bother to answer your questions.
> Am I the only one who gets slight shivers when people tell her to delete something??
Probably not but I do not know why this is such a problem. If you worry, don't delete, simply move the file off the system.
> And no, nothing happened after I deleted the files.
I was about to say that I thought you had to create a new identity first (Tools -> Identities) before you create new POP3 settings, but I think that's only what you want to do if you want to use different settings for each email account (a very trivial example, different color settings for your folders). What I find useful with different identities is that you can assign identities to your folders, so when you reply to an email in that folder it will be automatically under this identity (=the email will be sent with the email account you have assigned to this identity).
And at first look if there is any *.cnm file having 0 bytes - this one you surely can delete safely! The others *.cnm move somewhere instead of raw deleting - you may want to get them back.
I don't really know I've tried just sending an email with PMAIL just to see if it will work, but I'm not really sure. I've never used this program before, I just used the manuals to configure everything(POP3, SMTP) and the documentation on how to Configure Visual Web Developer to use an SMTP. Other then that I can't really tell you anything more.
Thanks for the response. Yes, I refer to text in dialog boxes and lists like the one showing mail waiting on the server or the left pane of the address book. See a neighboring thread titled "low vision use?" where I've posted more detail (in hopes of helping both myself and that OP). As outlined there, I found the Win7 "advanced" settings. None of them seems to affect the problem screen areas. I listed some possible workarounds in the other thread. Will add
greater enlightenment there if I discover any. :-)
Seems to me there's a sad irony here. Many of us old fogies who've relied on and loved Pegasus for many years, finally graduate up to new equipment with much higher display resolutions, only to find that our favorite mail client becomes less rather than more convenient. (And yes, I do understand that David puts yeoman effort into a free application.)
Trust me, I've changed all possible Windows settings to larger fonts.
This client uses a much more comprehensive magnifying program than Windows' magnifier - but it doesn't help to have some text tiny and some big enough to read...
