Barrylev, I had the same problem - a setup which was working properly just stopped. I received a message from gmail saying that I tried to use an insecure app. I was quite ill at the time so just reverted to using the gmail webmail app.

I found the latest version of Pmail and loaded it and followed all the steps to make the link with gmail, but still no dice. I then received another message from gmail saying that someone had tried to login to my email account using an insecure non-google app. It also advised that I could allow this connection by altering the security setting in my google account to allow connection to less secure apps. I'm not sure if this is google being incredibly fastidious re security, but I have a sneaking suspicion they might be trying to squeeze out third parties - they even mention MS Outlook as a possible insecure app.

 Anyway, I enabled the less secure access and all seemed to fly. Hope this is OK for you and that the lowered security doesn't cause problems.

 I too would be keen to learn if there's any other way around google's block.

I am surprised that no-one in this thread has mentioned that the main cause for this slow startup is the time taken to read all the messages in the NewMail directory (ie c:\pmail\mail\admin).

Every message gets to be read and a check is made to see if a line with X-PMFLAGS: exists in the headers of a message, if not a line that starts with: X-PMFLAGS: is inserted in the header lines of the message to record important information on the content of the message. In the NewMail files list, click on a message then click the menu button "Properties". Once that line has been inserted, the repeated analysis of the message is not required.

Secondly, there is a limit to prevent further scanning if there are more than approximately 500 messages in NewMail. Additionally, it should be noted that Filtering and Content Control (Spam detection) of the Newmail folder occurs every time Pegasus Mail starts, so it important to move messages to regular folders either manually or by setting up filters. 

Finally, AV scanning only occurs when a message is actually opened.  Attachments are only scanned once, if Virscan extension is active. You will see a message on the Pegasus Mail status line (bottom of screen) stating "scan skipped - already scanned" when message is opened.

An update of IERenderer (the default HTML renderer) is being prepared which might handle the issues you encounter. Most of them are caused by the extremely chaotic IE (in)compatibilities created and maintained by the Windows creators: They didn't obey to lots of standards in the past resulting in later workarounds which make issues really difficult to track down without lots of trial and error.

Tom,

  Bearhtml is part of the distribution package for Pegasus Mail.  It remains inactive until Pegasus Mail detects that IERenderer is missing or inactive. its operation is controlled by a file Bearhtml.ini, which can be edited by users. You will note that Bearhtml.ini is very similar in content to IERenderer.ini, so duplication of functions is as close as possible.

The only real difference between Bearhtml and IERenderer is that Bearhtml uses its own visualizing engine, whereas IERenderer uses core components of Internet Explorer (not MicrosoftEdge).

No news and some workarounds: The most reliable attempt of forwarding without anything getting lost at all is forwarding messages attached to a new message (allowing you to add your comments) as offered by the forwarding dialog. Aside from this, the actual formatting in outgoing messages is not properly shown in the reader when inserting you comments: To see how it will arrive at the recipient's side you need to queue your message, open the queue manager and create a copy of the outgoing message to some other folder (I usually use Deleted Messages if I don't want to keep a copy). If you open such a copy you will see how it actually looks when opened by your recipients.

That is IT, exactly. Thank you. I didn't realise I had the folders window in Preview mode because I had made it narrow to hide the preview pane, so the button to change to LIST mode was not visible.

I found it, switched it and now I can have those other options selected and the New Mail folder opens as it should.

Hi guys, thanks for your help. No, not using IMAP but POP3. It did work eventually, and all I did was to move the rule at the top of the rule list. But that's weird, for other rules I have there should not interfere with it. Anyways, I will test this with multiple rules and folders (for that is the whole point of going thru this trouble) and let you know if any more problems. Thanks again.

I'm not a fan of Win10 either.  Much preferred Win7.  Give Win10 a chance though.  It' not terrible; it just takes getting used to and a lot of time researching how best to make it work like you think it should work rather than the way MS thinks we should want it to work.

There are a couple of options to consider.

 1.  Message formatting > Always paste plain text in preference to styled text.

This setting isn't practical if you sometimes copy/paste the formatting but if you always send unstyled text then this is the way to go.

2.  Use one of the right click paste options to paste unformatted.

Hi Brian,

I've now tried  C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~1\OFFICE14\WINWORD.EXE, C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~2\OFFICE14\WINWORD.EXE, C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE14\WINWORD.EXE and C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE14\WINWORD.EXE with no success. I'll stick with what I've got - it's just I don't like mystery problems!

When just talking about wishes: I would like to have the oppotunity to delete also folders which contain subfolders with mails therein. In Germany we have to keep all business e-mail conversations of the last 10 years. That's why we maintain single mailfolders for each single year. But our users additionally create different subfolders for each year folder. And every new year I have to tidy up my user's Pmail accounts deleting those year folders which are older than 10 years. And this is a high time consumption process when you imagine about 18 users with about 10 to 20 subfolders per year folder.

I think I've solved this issue with another message resulting in similar crashes when forwarding or replying to HTML messages with inserting the HTML into the respective TER window. Since Pegasus Mail provides any HTML it processes to the active HTML renderer for correcting issues which might crash TER I found out supported by Martin Ireland what he was doing differently with BearHtml. After modifying my processing accordingly I don't see these crashes anymore. Expect to see an IER update (providing filxes for other issues as well) soon.
