<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> </p><p> <o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </p><p> <o:AllowPNG/> </p><p> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </p><p></xml><![endif]-->Hi nate10,

This might not answer all parts

of your question but here is how I save, backup and restore my emails under

Pegasus Mail.

Pegasus Mail (PM) saves all emails

in numerous files in your email folder on your hard disk. It is not one file

only as e.g. Outlook does. If you want to backup your emails you have to backup

that entire folder (or directory) including sub-folders if exist.

As an example, my main PM email

folder is:

D:\data\emails\

If your are using multiple PM users

then PM creates a separate folder for each user and places all the emails of

each user in a separate folder under that main mail folder. It also places a

small text file PMAIL.USR into the PM main folder which contains one line per

user (have a look at it). Assuming you have three users 'alice', 'john' and 'tom'

then you would end up with three folder in your PM email folder path called:

D:\data\emails\alice\

D:\data\emails\john\

D:\data\emails\tom\

All files in the user folders have 'cryptic' names and most

are actually simple text files.

In the user folder e.g.

D:\data\emails\tom\

you will also find the user

specific configuration stored in a file called: PMAIL.INI

So, all you have to do is save (backup) or transfer (to a

new PC) that entire folder tree.

Then just install PM fresh and let it know where its email

folder is.

A last hint on backing up PM Emails / email folder. Make

sure that you create an exact MIRROR of that main folder (D:\data\emails\) and sub-folder every time you do a

backup otherwise you may end up with duplicated emails.

Cheers

Thomas

Pegasus Mail will not run from the backup because the configuration files contain paths appropriate to the original installation.  I see two options.

1.  Restore the entire \PMAIL directory from the backup to a hard drive or USB device then use the -roam switch in the command line to start Pegasus Mail.  The command line should look something like this:  drive:\PMAIL\PROGRAMS\WINPM-32.EXE -A -ROAM (add any other switches you normally used.

2.  In a different installation of Pegasus Mail, add the mailbox directory from the backup as an added mailbox.   You should then be able to see the entire contents of that mailbox and can manipulate the messages and folders just like any other.

It is know there are addressbook problems and hopefully they will be fixed for the V4.71 release that is already scheduled to fix other problems and one with the spell checker display and end check function. Try using drag and drop and that should work to add address to book you have open.

Address book as we know it will not be in V5 and will be replaced by new Contact Manager.

Right click in the preview pane then select either "Reformat long lines" or "Wrap long lines".  Also note the keystroke for each function.
It's not a huge big deal, and I still love PMail to bits, but it's an annoyance, and I shouldn't have to sacrifice the whole auto-replacement feature to prevent it. Sez me, anyway.
I always turn off any of these features wherever they occur (including auto-suggestions as done by browsers and mobile phones (which I don't use either if I don't have to)) since they always drive me crazy as well instead of being helpful: I probably simply hate smart-ass devices ;-)

Hi !

Well, maybe you could read this thread :

http://community.pmail.com/forums/40512/ShowThread.aspx#40512

Unfortunately, David's participation is mandatory if one hopes to find a stable funding solution, and he has not be very responsive regarding this matter so far.

Cheers !

A clean install is a good choice.  There is a list of filenames and extensions that is a valuable for reference for identifying which files to copy from your old installation.  Find it at:  http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/pegasusmail/pf_pmfiles.html

Also, I have a document created for personal reference that I believe you would find helpful.  If you would like a copy, send me a private message with your email address.

Hi Jim,

> Is there any way that the IMAP mailbox can appear at the top, above both of the others?

At the moment there isn't. IMAP-Mailboxes are displayed always at the bottom (after your mailbox, lokal mailboxes in other folders and central mailboxes). You may manipulate the order of IMAP-Mailboxes (if you have several of these) by editing the IMAP.PM and change the order by copiing the lines in order you want.

Thanks a lot.

I notice when creating new mail accounts via Mercury where the name is more than 8 characters that the folder name is truncated to 8. I understand why the 8 character limit used to exist (I started out using CPM, then MS-DOS), but that restriction has not been with us for many years.

It would be reassuring to know if the 2GB limit will also be removed.

Cheers!

Best I can tell, stationary was not meant to be edited, as you have discovered.  Use of a stationary starts a new message.  Saving that message as stationary processes as if you are saving a new stationary.  I also could not find a way to capture the content of the Details field from the Draft manager window.

Have you considered using templates?  They are more difficult to create but can be edited.  They also offer the benefit of prompting for information (values for string variables).

I also would like the option of saving drafts to the IMAP mail server. If I draft an email with my laptop on the road, I would like to finish it on my home office computer. I just finished a work-around. I set up a mail box on the server named "Drafts". I email my draft to my "Drafts" email address. When I get home, I open my draft on my office computer, complete the email and forward to my client, stripping the "forwarding info lines".

P.S. I have my own identity and a "Drafts" identity. So when I forward the completed email, I use my own identity.

Hi Everybody,

Just a note on installing to a mapped drive under Windows 8.1:

We have used Pmail for several years and find it ideal as you can store all the mail and program itself on a server, which makes backups and management a doddle.

We use all our computers with explicit drive mappings, resolving to a letter, for example:

S: is \\192.168.x.xx\Folder Name.

This is to maintain compatibility with old programs that do not play well with explicit names.

When installing the 4.70 update it does not read the existing drive mappings when you browse for the program folder, you have to use the Network Browse which will find the server by its name:

\\Name of Server\Folder Name

The install then proceeds OK. After the install all the existing shortcuts on other computers work fine, there is no need to do install anything on the other workstations.

If you store the Windows Credentials, then Windows will store both instances of the server, by IP address and Name.

This assumes that you are upgrading an existing installation that already has the mail to and send defaults set to Pegasus Mail. If not then these can be set with the wsendto found in the program folder, or, if a new installation then run wssetup from the program folder.

Hope this helps others.

Michael & Brian - your suggestions seem to have worked - thank you!!!!

When I clicked on Windows and then Cascade, the Folders box and the Address & Distribution box both appeared, but the addresses in the address box were all missing when I clicked on the addressbooks tab.  However, when I clicked on the "Distribution List" side of the box, and then clicked on the far right "addresses" that has a green horizontal arrow, a separate address box would pop up which had all my listings.   I took a couple of pics, and as uploading to photobucket, I closed out of Pegasus and reopened the Pegasus mail folder.............and all my addresses were where they were suppose to be.

I've trusted and been a believer in Pegasus mail for over a decade, never having a major problem until this past weekend.  It's a reminder that I need to keep copies or do a better job of backing things up.

Again, thanks for taking the time to review and help me with this.

The link below points to a document assisting in the setup of the new Spell Checker in Pegasus Mail version 4.7, for those people who need dictionaries in languages other than those supplied in the Pegasus Mail 4.7 distribution set.  Also describes how to use the Firefox or OpenOffice, or LibreOffice spell checking dictionaries, to save duplication of files, as Pegasus Mail now uses the same Hunspell spell checking dictionaries as these products.
