Printing a message - optional message

I just noticed that Ver 4.7.1 was available. I have updated. But, the same issue exists.

Printing from the toolbar icon causes it to select the rear feeder.

Printing from the Preview page (Ctrl+Shift+P) uses the cassette.

I can use this until something better comes along.

I am running Pegasus Mail Ver 4.70 on Windows XP.

For the last little while, when I ask to print a message, I receive a message (which I have stopped reading) saying would I like to try using it now (sorry, I forget what "it" is). I always said, "Yes", at which point, the print dialogue would appear and I could ask for just page 1 to print (for example).

Tonight, I decided to click on "Do not show this message again", since I was always saying "Yes". And it shot off and printed the whole message, including page 2, which I did not need.

How can I get back that reminder message??? I'd rather have the ability to change the printing options. I don't mind having to say "Yes" each time.

 Thank you for your help

Display of the window you describe is controlled by the ShowPrintingHint= setting in IERenderer.ini located in your home mailbox directory.  I don't find a setting in the IERenderer configuration GUI that controls this but manually editing the entry worked in my test.  Be sure Pegasus Mail is closed before editing the file.  You might want to make a safety copy first as well.

Hi Brian,

The ShowPrintingHint entry is currently set at YES.

Should I change it to NO???

And, now, when I try to print, the printer options do come up.

But that question about trying something (what WAS that??? Sorry, I can't remember why it was coming up) does NOT come up.

Maybe the options were skipped on that ONE time (when I turned off the message) only.

Maybe it was something from the printer, not from Pmail??????

In any case, I think I'm ok. Thanks for your help.

Behavior will be different when printing plain text content vs. HTML in case that explains anything.

FWIW, IERenderer contains some configurable printing options which you may want to look at if you haven't.

Hi Brian,

Yes, I had a vague memory that it was related to HTML vs plain text. Oddly, that one time, it forced me to put paper in the back slot instead of underneath (Canon MX712). Seems to be back to normal now.

I will look at the IERenderer options. Thanks for the tip.

Hi, I'm back.

This is getting boring. Every time I try to print from Pmail, it selects the rear feed for paper. Even when I go into the printer properties and ask for the cassette.

I think ALL messages are in HTML, even those that are SENT to me as plain text.

The original message that I turned off (damn) had something to do with HTML formatting, I think. Whenever I said "Yes" to that message, it would print, but used the usual cassette feed. It is only since turning off that message that the printer is using the rear feed.

Is there any way to turn ON any tips or help messages that I have turned off???

That original message said something like, "XXX can print your message better. Would you like to try it now?" I always said "Yes". Once I clicked on "Do not show this message again", this rear feeder problem began.

In the Pegasus Mail main toolbar click the IERenderer icon (the flying horse superimposed over the Internet Explorer "e").  Is the "Use IERenderer" option checked?

If so, select "Configure" then go to the "Various" tab and insure the "Printer setup" option is ticked.

If not, Bearhtml runs in place of IERenderer.  Both are highly capable but you may want to enable IERenderer if there is no specific reason for using Bearhtml.

IERenderer is selected. Printer Setup is selected.

Default HTML printing is NOT selected. Is that related to this??

I don't think so.

Open a message, hit Ctrl + Shift + P then click the "Printer setup" button and see if the paper source is configured for the rear feed.

Aha. We are getting somewhere now.

When I used Ctrl+Shift+P, a new window appeared with a preview of the document. Alt+P then brought up the printer settings and "automatically select" was chosen. I printed and it used the cassette!!!

Can I fix how the Print Toolbar icon (on the message) works, so that this happens? I don't mind having an extra step.

The print button behavior is different with plain text vs HTML.  I believe that if you enable the default HTML printing option you will always get a print preview when the message is HTML.  I think this gives you the same affect as Ctrl + Shift + P.
