Beginners problems

There is nothing in your previous that sound like it can not be made to work. You keep comparing Pegasus Mail to Thunderbird but Pegasus Mail is NOT Thunderbird. I works different in a number of ways so you must learn Pegasus Mail. It is capable of retrieving mail from an many hosted mailboxes as you care to try to work with. Yes, it uses terms like "folder" and "tray" instead of "directory" and "sub-directory" but the functionality appears the same from within Pegasus Mail (it is quite outside but that is another post).

You mention needing a clear relation between the POP3 acccout, SMTP account, and the mail folder. Pegasus Mail has only one new mail folder so if you were to retrieve mail via POP3 from 30 mailboxes the messages would all come into that one new mail folder unless you filter them elsewhere.

Consider this: I have 2 hosted mailboxes, a RoadRunner, a Gmail. In my Pegasus Mail I have configured 2 identities, one configured to retrieve and send via RoadRunner, one configured to retreive and send via Gmail. RoadRunner messages come into my new mail folder, Gmail messages are filtered to a Gmail folder. My Gmail identity is associated with this folder so that when I send replies they appear to come from my Gmail address.

The power and flexibility of Pegasus Mail can be very confusing to configure so my suggestion is to take it slow and post one questions at a time. Let us know details of what you need to accomplish so we can quide you accordingly.

BTW, IMAP accounts are configured via Tools > IMAP Profiles.

Hi,

I am testing Pegasus Mail with a test account.and had some beginner problems. I would like if the developpers will take note that users from outlook or thunderbird will have at the beginning some trubles.

1) since the automatic configuration I had a warning message ... pegasus says that it will not accept usernames = email addresses (=username with the @ sign in it) but this does not create any problem.

2) I do not find the folder where Pegasus stores mails who was not send ...

3) as a (ex) outlook and thunderbird user I am seeking for the "accounts" to add a second account ... I think I have fund this in tools internetsettings ... but I do not understand the way used by pegasus to link the outgoing SMTP account with the POP3 account.(in my settings the accounts have 2 different names.

Probably Pegasus Mail will not solve a very stupid problem, what I have with our Web-Server! The server staff has developped a very stupid idea to avoid "spoofing" .. It is not possible to send witht thunderbird mails from xxxx@yyyy.com with the SMTP account of zzzz@yyy.com and it seems that Pegasus can aso not do this;

(I have set the settings in Pegasus on the pop3 server to the account text@xxx.com and on the SMTP Server to an other (existing account) (login to the SMTP Server using the following details: test-out@xxx.com and then the related password) but it seems that our stupid server will not accept this).

Pegasus Mail can configured to immediately send messages of to queue them for sending. If you queue them for sending you can access the queue by going to File > Review queued mail.
There are two concepts in Pegasus Mail with which you may want to familiarize yourself with. One is "users" the other is "identities". Configuring Pegasus Mail for multiple users creates a mailbox for each user which keeps the mail activity separate. Under normal muli-user utsage, each user would run their own session of Pegasus Mail accessing their own Pegasus Mail mailbox and configuration settings. "Identities" allow you to retrieve mail from multiple hosted mailboxes into one Pegasus Mail mailbox. Each can be configured so you appear to be that person (if you had a gmail & an yahoo account you could configure it such that messages and replies come from the appropriate email address). Most configuration settings are unique to each identity so configuration of each identity must be done while working as the identity you wish to configure. Each POP and SMTP host can be used by multiple identities so part of identify configuration includes adding the hosts you wish to use for that identity.

This type of restriction is not uncommon. It prevents use of the SMTP server by anyone with a From address that is not of the authorized domain. Unfortunately this prevents xxxx@yyyy.com from sending if only the yyy.com domain is allowed even if xxxx@yyyy.com has the proper SMTP credentials.

@Brian Fluet Tank you for your responses. I have read that it is possible to configure Pegasus Mail for Multi users ...but I cant find this option. AND .. for me "Multi-Users" can mean two different things:

1. The installation of Pegasus can be used by more then one user (= Pegasus is installed on a "home computer" one time and can be used by all the users of the computer or the programm is installed on a network server, and the users of the network can run the program from this place)

2. A system that I have used in thunderbird ... I have multiple accounts in TB each account can store his mails in a specific folder (or as option in a commun folder).

2 is the ONLY feature of thunderbird what I can not find in Pegasus in a better version. ... but I need ihis.

The main reason that TB is for me "bull shit with multiple bugs" is that I am not a "one account user" (TB works fine if the user uses only ONE account! But have multiple bugs when there are multiple accounts). I have ... about 30 mail accounts ... and I have TWO locations to store the mails. One file location is by example on my notebook (the incomming mails from all accounts are stored in this directory). And when I am back in the office I have an other mail folder (on a NAS) where are stored the "archive" Mails. From time to time I mouve the older mails from the notebook folder to the NAS archive folder. In TB it was needed to create a false mail account who will store his mails on the NAS. This false mail account shows the Mail Folders stored on te NAS in teh folder list .

I hope you can give me instructions to create also in Pegasus Mail an account who stores the mails on the NAS ... and I will be verry happy!!! (bevore I have fund Pegasus Mail ... I was in the way to buy a sledgehammer to destroy thunderbird!!!!!!) (Pegasus does not send mails from a not concerned account, Pegasus does not show multiple warning screens with a stupid OK button! And (I hope this) Pegasus have not the "attaching bug" who exists in TB since YEARS.

in concern of the problem with the "spoofing" you have sayd: "It prevents use of the SMTP server by anyone with a From address that is not of the authorized domain" ... I think this is not a very good idea, but acceptable if the Idea is that the address must be from the same server. But our server people have installed this restriction for the complete address ... a Mail from xxx99@xxx.com can not be send by the SMTP of xxx@xxx.com ... BUT this problem is in Pegasus Mail NOT a big problem like in TB ... in TB it is needed to specify the SMTP Servers in a specific .account folder and then you use one of these accounts as mail sender account in the pop account ... in Pegasus the SMTP configuration is in near to the pop configuration. I think the best way to configure this is in Outlook (all is in one window). But in Pegasus this is also ok ... in TB it would be a good idea to create default "SMTP Mail sender accounts" .eg mailsender@xxx.com (a address who will only be used to send mails with other mail addresses as reply address. But do to the fact, that our server will not accept all *@xxx.com adresses, as sender address, this does not work. I use someone adresses, like xxx9999@xxx.com, as temporary address ... the xxx9999@xxx.com address is "forwardet" to xxx@xxx.com on the server and then, when I reply to a mail forwarded, I must change the sender mail address to xxx@xxx.com! If I do not so .. the mail is not send. I use such forwarded Mail addresses by example to receive Mails from contacts where I must fill out a WEB form ... I have in TB (and now in Pegasus) a filter who will move the incomming mails with my xxx9999 address in a specific folder insteat of the SPAM folder.

I like the filterroules-system of Pegasus! It is a lot better as the system from TB!

Thanks

I have still not fund a way to handle the problems that I have fund in Pegasus mail.

Some of my problems are related to the fact that I am a beginner with Pegasus Mail... but I Think there are also some problems who are related to the fact that I am a "power user" of mail programms.

For the moment I have fund out the following problems:

1 Pegasus mail made a difference between "Folders" and "trays". There is not any need to made a difference. Still outlook and thunderbird does not have this difference and uses folders like in Windows. ( I filter by example mails to a folder =a tray in Pegasus ... and then I move the mails to a SUB-Folder ..I receive in /suppliers and I move then usefuul mails in a sub-folder lke /suppliers/sony

2 in Pegasus Mail the configuration of multiple accounts is not clear and simple. Multiple Windows for the settings (pop - SMTP) are NOT a good idea! I want to have a settings screen like this: http://mail2vip.com/vippages/pegasus/pegasus%20account%20setting%20screen%20new.jpg (this is still not perfect, but goes in the right direction). It is needed to have a clear relaton between the POP account, the SMTP account and the mail folder. I think it will be also a good idea, to add also the config of IMAP accounts ... we are working in the moment with a very innovative system to use IMAP accounts.

3 there is a little "bug" in the settings procedure ... the bug is due to the fact, that the Pegasus Mail developpers work first with public mail servers like hotmail ... http://mail2vip.com/vippages/pegasus/pegasus%20mail%20incorrect%20username.jpg private servers use often the mail address (with @) as username) .. this message is not needed or must be completed by: verify if your username is really the mail address like test@xxx.com and not only test

Please take note that I like very mutch Pegasus Mail ... but for the moment I can not use it in a productive way: I am a multiple company email account user (on private servers and on public servers) and we have developped very high grade ways to manage multiple email accounts and SPAM. We have also fund .. in Thunderbird ... a lot of bugs who concern IMAP.

It would be a very good idea if a developper of Pegasus Mail contact me ... and I can then give him some screen shots where he will see what is to enhance and to upgrade in Pegasus Mail. The multiple (very stupid) bugs that we have fund in Thunderbird can also serve to verify if they exists also in Pegasus and to made that Pegasus will become the absolute best email manager program.

Again: I am NOT a beginner email user: I am a email expert and a power user of email (I manage about 40 mail accounts). There are two ways to make programs: we can made programs who meet the needs of simple people. Or we can made programs who meets the needs of power users ... and the procedures need by power users are also the best practice for simple users.

I would that Pegasus Mail becomes the best mail client in the market.

I would that Pegasus Mail becomes the best mail client in the market.

brainstuff
