web links not working update

I am using Chrome on Windows 10 and I find that this crops up from time to time.   The problem goes away after closing and restarting Pegasus so I do not think that it is a settings issue.

Hope someone can help sort this....suddenly web links in emails do not work.  When I click on a link it opens the Programs folder in my PC.  It was working fine until about 4-5 days ago.

Running WinMail V4.7 on Windows 8.1.

I have gone to the Tools>Options>Incoming Mail>hyperlinks and put in the location of the web browser (C:Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

but this did not help.  What's going on?

PS:  if i right click on a link, it gives me the options to open either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer...it doesn't seem to see Firefox at all (my preferred browser)!

Sorry to sound like such a newbie....but I can't figure this out!

After your reply last month, I checked the Pmail settings and saw that Firefox was selected as my browser; set and reset it a couple of times but it didn't change anything; when I clicked on a link the program just opened the Program window on my PC; also, if I right clicked on the link and select "Open link in browser" it only shows me Chrome and IE, not Firefox.

Interestingly enough, after doing all those checks last month, nothing seemed to change, but when after shutting down and rebooting the next day, all was working!!  Everything was fine until 3 days ago, then the same problem occurred.  Is there something that is updating which is changing internal settings?  Is someone deliberately trying to freeze out Firefox?

I want to try your suggestion for editing the registry, but don't know where to find it on my machine (running Win8.1).

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Not anything Pegasus Mail or its extensions do, especially since you're the only person ever reporting such a reoccuring issue. IMO it can only be a system issue or Firefox itself (more likely the former).

Since I don't use Win 8.1 I can't provide any help with this, and if you don't have worked with RegEdit.exe before you should be extremely careful anyway (system backup recommended). BTW: I guess you read some older threads about browser issues, which one are you refering to here so I know what information you're working with?

It sounds like the file association for Htm and/or Html are being reset to default values (by I.E ?). Are you coding the full path to Firefox in Pegasus Mail Options/Incoming Mail/Hyperlinks or just using the default association option.

Martin

Yes, I read the response in the thread referenced above.

I will try updating Firefox and see if that helps.

I believe I input the complete thread:

I have both input manually and also used the "browse" option when right-clicking on the link, but the path looks the same either way.

Okay, just installed latest update to Firefox (v46.01) and links work again....[:)]open Firefox as wanted!

I guess the problem was in Firefox. So if it happens again, I will check for update.

Thanks  irelam and idw for your responses.

I don't think so, maybe you inadvertently allowed IE or Chrome to hijack the browser default?

Not that I know of...but perhaps an app that I installed did it.
