Pegasus will not open

That depends which folder(s) you saved your messages to in Pegasus. If you saved all files to another location, look through the .PML and copyself.pmm files there.

I sent an email with a picture attached. After that Pegasus locked up. I shut Pegasus down and now it won't open. In the past when this happened I went to the PMAIL Admin files and deleted a recent (large) file and that fixed this problem.

This time I inadvertently deleted several files and now it still will not open.  I re-installed Pegasus with no better results.  I'm very concerned that I could loose all my emails from 1996 to now as well as my saved distribution lists and draft emails that I use regularly.

 Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Without going into reasons for your problems, the first thing you MUST do is backup your mail directories (eg c:\Pmail\Mail\Admin). You should copy all the files with Windows Explorer, to some location on your hard drive, or memory stick.  If you have room backup the whole Pmail directory tree content.

You mentioned that Pegasus Mail won't open. Did you get a warning message about file MAILBOXP.LCK  if so delete it (in Windows Explorer), and try to restart Pegasus Mail.

There's no warning message..... I clik on Pegasus icon to open and a message says mailbox appears to be locked by another process. I can click the "continue" button and the Welcome box opens but it times out and next box says pegasus is not responding and it closes....

Do you have a system restore point, or system image back-up that you can revert back to?

If not, I would recommend backing up the entire existing Pegasus folder, then remove the installation from control panel.

Re-install, and then copy the system files from the back up to the new installation - that should return all of your system settings etc.

Thanks for the suggestion!

So to be clear I have saved all the files in the ADMIN folder of PMAIL in a separate file.  I am now to uninstall Pegasus and then re-install it?

Then I'm to copy all the files I've saved and put them back into the ADMIN file of the newly downloaded Pegasus?

Thanks for confirming... I'm something of a ludite.

Yes. Be sure to examine the back-up files that you copy back to the new installation.
You can open most of them by right click/open with/Notepad

Other users of a more advanced level may assist by advising which files are which and which need to be copied back to the new installation to restore the previous configuration.

You should really start on a lower level: The culprit is very likely a message in the new mail folder, so the first thing to try would be moving all CNM files to a backup location and see whether Pegasus Mail successfully starts afterwards. If it does you can move the CNM files back to where they belong one by one and figure out which one causes problems when opening the new mail folder.

I'm getting closer.... I copied all CNM files from May first to now and moved them. Pegasus opened.

The only thing I can tell that is missing is the COPIES SELF file with all the emails I've written to folks in the past 15+ years.

Any clue how to find them elsewhere on my computer?

Thanks for your help!!!!!

Depending on where you set it in Options, you will find the file
copyself.PMM
(probably in the Admin folder)
That will contain your mails.

You will also require the file copyself.PMI

Pegasus Mail will recreate it if missing, but message flags would be lost.

It appears that the COPYSELF file with 18 years worth of saved messages has left my computer.... or I just can't find it.

Thanks for your help getting Pegasus back up and running!

Just a thought:

Check to see if your antivirus has placed in a vault (deem it as containing a virus).

Don't turn off the PC - if not in quarantine it can be recovered by data recovery. I can help with that issue.

Once again I'm in the same place, however this time I sent an email to a large distribution group with only one small picture attached. I've deleted all the files from the past 2 days (temporarily) and Pegasus still won't open.

So now I deleted files for 2 days, and Pegasus would open. I put the files back one at a time and all went back and Pegasus works, however all my old emails, files and distribution lists are gone.

I did save all files to another  place.... how to I get my info back into Pegasus now???

Thanks!!
