Pegasus hangs immidiately after loading

Haven't seen anything since so as usual, Pegasus rocks. Might be time for another contribution, think it's two years since I donated last :).

Will look at the MiniDump next time I have problems (promises, promises). Always nice to know exactly what is going on. Might even have figured out it was Windows and something odd network-wise faster...

Thanks for your help. One of the good things using "old" (I mean tried and tested :) ) software, people know something and there are no trolls around.

Been using Pegasus since the early 90's - just a disclaimer as I'm quite tired at this point.

Had some electricity outages earlier today and while most equipment is under UPS not all network stuff is.

Got everything working after 6h.

Except Pegasus. When started it hangs (mailbox and then not responding).

Ok, sure, had quite some trouble with the network card but didn't use Pmail at any point (except when things were intermittent so no promises).

Anyway, figured I had 4.7.1.x and upgraded to 4.7.2.

Same problem.

Restored last night's backup... huh, still the same problem??? No new folders created... Only found one new cnm and got copied it elsewhere... nope.

Now I'm getting nervous. Then again, with Pmail, I'm sure I can get it solved. I just did some really important stuff in the morning.

Now what? Could not find anything on the forums when the hang is this bad. Slightly too tired to figure out how to enable logs when it hangs at start.

Help?

Will be better at figuring this out tomorrow, I'm sure.

How long have you waited after seeing "not responding" before you killed it?  Versions 4.7x are bad about not responding to the system when they are busy which results in the "not responding" verbiage even though they are simply busy (downloading, sending, filtering, etc.).  If the HIERARCH.PM file was damaged then Pegasus Mail might be busy rebuilding it.

Hours? :)

Things is, now I started getting other things to hang as well (like battle.net). Obviously I started testing important stuff first and not games so getting virtual machines (vmware 12) working was a priority.

Some of the past week Windows updates apparently did something really nasty to some network components. I did have quite some problems with some virtual machines choking at Windows Update this round.

Unfortunately I have automatic important updates on in my main machine. One more reboot and now things worked...for now... cannot see any updates done in any logs. Weird. Considering I jumped between WIN8 and this WIN7 a few times I doubt this is because I missed a required boot.

Will be fun to see what my "WIN7 backup only" and "WIN8 if games not work" boots will think after this.

But looks like not a Pmail issue (as usually ever).

Was there any logs I could look at? Ini fixes showing stuff before getting anywhere? Just curious where.

It sounds like you have deduced that the problem is system related so probably only Event Viewer.  I don't think there is anything inside Pegasus Mail that would log anything unless you have Micheals' MiniDump extension installed.  If you continue have problems with Pegasus Mail this extension might be worth looking into.  It is in the downloads area of this site.  The direct URL is: http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/community_add-ons_for_pegasus_mail/entry12763.aspx
