The new mail folder may be open off screen or behind another folder.  To check that go to the "Window" pull-down menu and look at the list of open folders in the bottom section.  If the new mail folder is listed select either Tile or Cascade to bring all open windows into view.  You will then need to reposition and resize them.

As for the buttons not working, what indicator do you have that they are not working?  Obviously the Open/rescan button won't appear to do anything without the new mail folder being visible.  Newly downloaded messages won't be visible either.  This should not affect sending though.  Details of what you are experiencing would be helpful.

Somehow my new mail folder disappeared when I was trying to send a reply to a message. It appears in my folder list and keeps putting new messages in the New Mail folder, but I cannot open the Folder! I tried reinstalling the update for V7.72, then tried reinstalling the update for V7.0, but neither attempt changed anything. I sitll cannot open my new mail folder except in Preview mode, which I don't want. Also, the Open and check for new mail button does not work, neither do the check for new messages or send new messages buttons. The send and receive button also does not work.
