Michael,
Thank you for still trying to solve the problem which, as I've written, does not longer exist.
I also thanked you and Brian for your suggestions and told you that none of your suggestions solved the problem.
I don't want to start a rather unnecessary discussion that might lead to bad feelings, but I dont't get it why you classify the outcome of following your (both) suggestions as "big word for small issue". It was no small issue as can be deducted from the very outcome of following your very suggestions, which did not work, which I reported back. I also reported in my first posting that I am aware ot the automatic mode of pegasus to find the "sytem browser" and by also directing pm to use a browser at a certain path and that I tried both methods for no avail.
So to solve question A I had to think the other way around how to setup the system (registry) with the correct values at the correct places in the registry by observing what opera does when it is installed in non-portable mode, compare this with what the portable installation does when directed to act as system-browser, realizing that the portable installation does not setup the same number of entries in the registry I acted accordingly. This solved the problem for all programs system-wide, except PM. To solve question B I just had to disable ierenderer (which of course is of latest version) and voila PM now works perfectly in both modes (automatic and directed to path).
So the lessons learned for me are:
- opera (12.18) installed in portable mode wrecks up the registry somehow when directed to act as system browser
- telling the system via the system route (and IExplorer) to use a portable installation of opera does not help (at least in my case)
- IErenderer for an unknown reason is somehow overriding PM's due capability to use a correct portable installation of opera as system browser
Again, I really appreciate your (and everybody's) time and effort to help and will do so in the future, but I just don't get it and I had to answer anyway out of respect ....
Please no bad feelings!
