One of my folders now has all the messages from 11 August 2015 to 18 August 2016 missing.

Somewhat suspiciously, the last message in 2015 is 378M in size. (The next largest is 1.6M) so are the missing messages stored in the huge message?

The folder is an important one and it would be very, very helpful if I could get the messages back.

Incidentally, I have tried checking the folders consistency and re-indexing it.

Any help would be gratefully received

I have a utility stored in the Community downloads area called NotSplit, which will extract all the messages in a folder and put them in your NewMail folder. Note that this utility extracts deleted messages as well as active messages, so your big messages could be among them all.  The utility is found at http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/utils/entry3962.aspx

You will need to obtain the actual filename of the folder to be processed (*.pmm) from the Folder menu properties.  You should if possible empty your NewMail into another folder before you start, and once Notsplit finishes you will need to move the contents of your NewMail area to a folder. I would suggest setting up a new folder rather than using the existing folder. Please note that my utility does not delete the original  messages from the folder as they get extracted.

You may try again with mbxmaint_ui.exe located in PM's programs directory if you can figure out the folder's filename from its properties and use the tool after shutting down PM. It might be a good idea to create a backup copy of the respective PMM file first!

What is the total size of the foldas reported on the folder names list ?

I tried mbxmaint_ui.exe, but unfortunately it achieved no more than "re-index folder" did.

Hi Martin,

I ran NotSplit which seemed to finish correctly.

I'm probably being dense, but I can't find the temp directory that is holding the extracted files. I find the search (Cortana?) facility on Windows 10 that my computer sneakily installed one night to be not as good as the previous one, and it cant seem to find any relevant answers.

OK, I was being dense. I've found the files but now I do not know how to read them back into Pegasus Mail.

Any ideas?

Hi there,

    Determine the Newmail location in your Pegasus Mail (Help/About/Info)  and simply in Windows Explorer, copy all the separate messages into that directory. They will then appear in your Newmail list. Then move them into a new folder. if you have time, set up a NewMail rule to move the messages into the new folder, and restart Pegasus Mail, to enable the new rule.

They should then be just like normal mail.

Thanks for that Martin. I did as you said, using a copy of the original folder containing the .cnm files that had been processed by NotSplit.and I now have a pegasus mail folder full of duplicate emails. 

The trouble is that the years worth of emails is still missing. :(

The last of the 2015 emails - which has been duplicated - is now showing one of the duplicate emails at 378M and the other at 100k. Are the missing emails locked up in the huge email file and is there any way of getting them back? I was hoping that NotSplit would extract them, but unfortunately it did not.

Does that large message open?  If not, see if it will copy it to the new mail folder.  If it does, identify it's .cnm file (right click > Message properties > filename or F12 > filename), then open the .cnm with a text editor to determine its content.

Its not difficult to identify the huge file - its 100x as large as the next largest! Opening it with wordpad shows a regular email followed by what looks like a lot of html then the vast majority of the file is just blank until it finishes off with a regular email. So the bulk of the file is empty?

Incidentally, we shall be visiting NC next year. (again!) My daughter is getting married on the OBX. It certainly is a lovely place. I'd like to visit more of the state - I play banjo, so there is an ulterior motive - but the place is quite big.

Unfortunately, I don't have any advise on your lost mail issue or that large message.  I occasionally see posts about large messages causing problems but that's normally in the new mail folder.

I'm glad you get the chance for a taste of North Carolina.  The mountains of North Carolina are my favorite part of the state,especially in the southwestern corner.  That's a loooong way from the Outer Banks though. 

My UK experience was a three day weekend in London some years ago.  Not the REAL UK I'm sure but my wife and I had a great time.
