strange emails in my new mail box
Brian, thanks for your response, as In the error message above, the filename is that row of the strange symbols, nothing else, no dot, file type etc. All the fields in the message properties is also different length strings of that same (inverted exclamation points ?) the to: from: subject, etc etc. I have never seen that symbol before so I don't know what to call it.
If these are indeed corrupted message files then the only way to deal with them is to delete the associated .CNM files?
Also what is AV product?
Anti-Virus
WTF? Now all those email headers have moved so they are all together in the new mail list???
Probably of function of the new mail sorting.

About 10 days ago I received 4 strange emails in my new mail box, Today I got them again. All the fields are strings of a symbol that looks like an upside down exclamation point (all are in red). If I click on one of the emails I get:

This message contains binary or non-textual data that cannot be previewed within Pegasus Mail.

   Filename:   ÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌ

You can work with this file in the message reader's 'Attachments' page.

If I try to open it as an attachment I get a blank preview box.

If I try to delete the emails they will not delete. If I probe further it says that I cannot delete a read only file. If I try to change it from read only, I still cannot delete it.   Since the first time I got these emails I have been having instances where the same email (normal email) will download 2 -4 copies of the same email one after another. These I can (usually) delete, but they are annoying, and I don't know if the two issues are connected except the started at about the same time. I am running  PM v.4.71.565 under Win 7 64 bit. Please help, I don't want to change email programs.

Assuming you are talking about messages downloaded via POP3, what you describe is an indication of a corrupted message.  The message filename (ends with .CNM) can be found in the message properties window.  Make note of each messages filename then close Pegasus Mail.  Navigate to your home mailbox directory using a file explorer and move or delete those files.  Note that a .CNM file is a plain text file so you can attempt to view its content with a text editor though the corruption may affect this.

If you don't know where your home mailbox directory you can find the path to it by accessing Pegasus Mails' Help > About Pegasus Mail and then clicking the "Info" button.

If the corruption recurs (after doing a system restart to clean out any ghosts), the culprit may be your AV product trying to scan the message files while Pegasus Mail is processing them.  Make sure your home mailbox directory is excluded from active scanning.  Although your AV product might not have changed, an update to it may have changed its behavior.

I agree, I too believe it is a corrupt message (or series of messages) I'm interested in figuring out where they came from in case they show up again, and how I can get rid of them. If I try to delete one with my keyboard delete key instead of the one in PM, I get the message that it cannot be deleted because it is marked read only. but if I attempt to change that property it changes, then goes back to read only when I tried to delete it.
