Versions 4.7x use a different SSL than previous version which I suspect is causing connections to fail.  An upgrade should be easy but, as you noted, a copy of C:\PMAIL first is prudent.  You might have her go to Help > About Pegasus Mail the click the Info button to confirm the WINPMAIL.EXE directory is indeed C:\PMAIL and that the home and new mailbox directories are in C:\PMAIL\MAIL\user (probably ADMIN).

I am trying to help (via the landline!)  a friend use PMail on her computer rather than Outlook.    I am having problems finding the correct settings.   Apparently sending me a message via PM  is OK, but she cannot see/receive the messages on the server.    I have checked the Forum archives  and there are a few past threads (2008, 2010, and 2015) showing problems trying to get the correct settings.  

Her address  is   "..........@msn.com".    The incoming port setting has been changed to 995 and full email address for the user name, but without success so far.

 Can anyone confirm what the best settings are now?   Many thanks.

What version of Pegasus Mail is she using? (must be v4.70 or greater)

Is she trying to set up an IMAP or POP3 connection? 

Is two-step verification enabled on the MSN account?  If so, I don't know how to deal with that in a Pegasus Mail configuration.

FWIW, I have an outlook.com account and use POP3 settings as follows:

Server host name:  pop3.live.com

User name: me@outlook.com

Port: 995

Security: Via direct SSL connect

A session log would probably identify exactly where the connection failure occurs if you are up for trying to work through that over the phone.

A quick reply, thank you Brian.  I thought we were at ver 4.63,  it took a bit of searching until I found the new version 4.72 on <http://www.pmail.com/downloads_s3_t.htm>  !

 I think my friend had said it was ver 4.52 on her Win XP machine.  Outlook was her email client.    So I will suggest downloading v4.72 first, although it may be slow as her broadband is is ca 2Mbps.  This may sort out the difficulty.   I think I am correct in saying a new version can be installed over the old version (after backing up the old C:/PMail folder with messages) by clicking on the EXE download and in "Set-up", select "Update" not "New Install"?    It is four years since I last did an update, but I think that was correct then and presumably still?

 From what you have suggested this looks to be the first thing to do and then see if I can guide the settings -  unfortunately being over 100 mi away it has to be done by landline.
