Where files live in Pegasus

Because I splitted mailbox directory and New Mail Directory too, here some additions on New Mail directory:

  • Autoreply files (autoreply, killfiles)
  • Pegasus-Lockfile for mailbox (mailboxp.lck)
  • Configurationfile for Autoforwarding and Deliverybehavior (PMXF.INI)
  • IERenderer.ini
  • Mercury readable Whitelist (WHITE-M.PM)
  • when using IMAP with Mercury (too):
    • Folderstructure vor IMAP (HIERARCH.PM and IMAPSUB.PM)
    • Folders for IMAP
    • STATE.PMJ for IMAP / HIERARCH.PM
    • Mercury-Lockfile for mailbox (mailboxm.lck)

As you see the problem with splitting Pegasus Mailbox into those two directories is, that IMAP takes a complete different mailboxstructure - there is no access at the home mailbox directory by Pegasus.

It seems David at some point of developement of Pegasus and Mercury didn't remember the opportunity of splitting [:(]

This is based on Han van den Bogaerde's excellent A Guide to Pegasus Mail filenames and file-extensions. It is a quickie summary

I offer my quickie summary below.

pconfig32.exe is run to specify two paths:
•    New mailbox – (by my convention, G:\PMail\Mail) where
    •    incoming mail (.cnm) arrives, i.e. Inbox
    •    pmail.ini lives. It contains:
        •    Options and Internet Options, or links to them (e.g. signatures, inetsig?.pms)
        •    a link to Home mailbox
•    Home mailbox – by my convention, G:\PmailLeny, where the following files live:
    •    folders (fol*.pmm, fol*.pmi), address books (*.pmr, *.pmi), distribution lists (*.pml)
    •    folder hierarchy (hierarch.pm)
    •    information about external mounted mailboxes in mailbox.pm (e.g. Chris’ Inbox)
    •    state and location on the screen of windows (state.pmj)
    •    list of recently used addresses (winpmfua.pm)
    •    list of recently used attachments (winpmfuf.pm)
    •    list of recently added headers to messages (winpmfuh.pm)
    •    list of most recently used places to store incoming attachments (winpmfup.pm)
    •    rules for filtering incoming mail (winrules.pmc)
    •    annotation files (*.pmn)
    •    saved and auto-saved emails (*.pmo)
    •    outgoing emails in draft format (*.pmw)
    •    outgoing emails in final form (*.pmx) – cannot be edited
    •    connection and other settings for POP3 and SMTP (*.pnd)
    •    reply templates (*.pm6)
    •    notepad files *.pmp)
    •    RTF versions of outgoing emails (*.pnx)

This is not quite complete. Others may wish to add to it. There may also be errors.
