Donations without PayPal?

Some days ago we experienced also problems when trying to pay for a bigger Mercury Licence by PayPal from Germany. Every try, our PayPal transfer (with own PayPal login) to Australia was cancelled with an unspecific error message. Then I have tried to transfer the amount as described without PayPal login. But also this doesn't work because PayPal wants that we create an own account immediately, as described by Albert. Now I'm in contact with David and finally he has send me an invoice - but unfortunately without any bank account data where we could transfer the money to. Presently I'm waiting for a new invoive from David.

The entire transfer procedure should be renewed and simplified that David gets his money in time. I think PayPal is a good solution in general, but Country specific problems should be checked in advance.

Hi @all

As I am using Pegasus Mail since a few days, I am really delighted. So making a donation for this fine piece of software is more than justified.

Is there a way to make a donation to David Harris without PayPal? When I try to make a donation (using my credit card) the PayPal system forces me to create an account. Any idea how I can donate without PayPal, just using a credit card payment system? Or a bank account number would serve just as well.

Cheers, Albert

The "Make a donation" button" on the pmail.com site takes you to PayPal which defaults to prompting for login but below the login button is a button for paying with a debit or credit card.  That button takes you to a guest checkout page.

Thanks, Brian, for your reply. I too thought it would go that way - there is a CC checkout button available. But, after clicking that button, when I am on the form where I enter my CC data, there are also (mandatory) fields below asking for my address, phone number, passport number etc. as if I would apply for an account. Probably this is country dependent. I am trying to pay from Switzerland, and PayPal doesn't want to have paying guests, who knows?

It is indeed country specific.  I never gave that a thought.  When US is the country there is the normal requirement of credit card info, name & address for credit card verification.  I'm even ok with providing an email address since they send a confirmation; they don't get my primary one though.  Phone info is asking too much and I can't tell and don't remember whether it is required.  Switzerland adds passport info which really got me to thinking.  In the US, only international traveling residents have one but Switzerland is smaller than most of our states so it makes sense that having a passport would be the norm there.  Our privacy concerns are similar though.

In the UK this is normal - it is a way of authenticating you as being the legitimate owner of the credit card .
