Pegasus 4.7 Windows 10 . Pegasus commands fail to work properly

If your laptop is still under warranty I would get it looked at. There is no way a laptop of that age should be playing up. But, it also depends on what software you have installed (and whether it is required e.g. so called tune-up programs or non-essential security programs), how many programs are starting up with your computer, how much memory the system has available.

When choosing a new anti-virus, go to an independent, professional review source: https://www.av-comparatives.org/ and their 'real world' tests https://www.av-comparatives.org/dynamic-tests/

You can see that McAfee suffers from a high rate of false-positives and has an unhealthy compromise rate compared to some of the other products tested. However, you need to examine the statistics over the long-term so look at several of the test results and then move on from there to determine if the product of your choice is suitable for you and how you use your laptop.

When in Pegasus a command (eg selecting a menu item)
takes the cursor to another application or location (eg "c drive
C:" ).Similarly when a program or web page has a "click here" option
it fails to work.
I have found a couple of items which I think are new (and absent
from my wife's computer) which I think may have a bearing on the
problem.
My Documents and Downloads folders EACH contain a folder labelled
"This PC- shortcut"  ;small file(420 bytes),with path:
                         c:\users\user Documents
[ and same for Downloads] .
"This PC" is therefore a folder on three different paths. This
seems odd to me.Could it account for the problem above? Is it
just a matter of deleting these shortcut folders?
While struggling with this problem a number of other issues have
been flagged.Frankly I don't have a clue whether they are fresh
problems or side effects.
For example:
AccelerometerSt.exe  Error  "unable to start "  , "application
error" RunDll, TaskSchedulerHelper.dll  etc etc , reported missing.
I would be very grateful to have views on this,it is a very problem.
Many thanks,Veblen.

Check your system installation: run SFC https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files

Make sure Windows is up to date with all the latest patches.

Run a scan with a professional anti-malware solution.

Sounds more like your computer needs looking at rather a Pegasus Mail issue, but if you do these three things it will help you determine what the cause may be.

Many thanks. I'll let you know  how it goes.

I have Windows Updates automatically and use Malware program regularly. Have now run SFC (takes around 2 hours), reported "Windows Protection didn't find any integrity violations". But a useful learning experience!

I have a HP printer which has HP assist which includes various suggestions to restore system files  but with some qualifications which I need to think about .

Meanwhile my thanks for your help, much appreciated

SFC should not have taken 2hrs, especially on a modern OS. Which security software are you using? And, how old is the computer you are using?

The location of the shortcuts for This PC is normal - you can place shortcuts wherever you like.

Your next step would be to ensure that your hardware has the latest firmware updates, followed by making sure your computer's BIOS is up to date as well.

After that, you then need to make sure the system's drivers are up to date.

You mentioned  Drivers:I checked these this morning
and fixed one that was out of date(concerning networking).
The laptop HP is 18months old but from the begining it was
always a bit flakely (but acceptable).
I use McAfee Live Safe. My contract is about to expire and
have almost decided not to renew.I had a test of Avast. It
found a virus which McAfee missed.
I have just noticed that my laptop has started to shut down
VERY quickly ,literally in 1 or 2 seconds.Too quickly?
