IMAP? What's that? ( guess that answers your question. )  :-)

This was going on for about a year or so now. I thought it may have been from Windows 10, but just switched to a newer PC with Windows 8.1 and it's doing it again. When I click to open some emails, this happens. At worst, it can hang Pegasus where I have to use Task Manager to close it. At best, it's a royal pain.

Do you have IERenderer enabled?  I ask because there is a discussion about this error that started in March 2014 and was last posted to in April 2016 in which the question is raised about whether Bearhtml might be the cause.  The thread ended without resolution but I think there is value in knowing whether Bearhtml is in play for you.

If you don't know, Bearhtml handles HTML rendering when IERenderer is disabled.

Please try to provide us with more details about this issue: This post describes what to do in such cases.

Just briefly to defend Bearhtml, Just about everywhere in Bearhtmlcode is enclosed in Try excepton blocks. Any time Bearhtml dies or hangs, the first place to look is in Bearhtml.log (in Newmail directory) where the exceptions or other upsets get recorded. Secondly in the screen displays you provide, the task that is being reported is Pegasus Mail main program, and not Bearhtml.dll

It would really help if you could find a message that reliably causes your crashes, and forward it to me to analyze. (email: irelam@telus.net)

I apparently wasn't getting notified of replies to this, and don't understand what you're talking about here, but I'm still getting these crashes, and just got another one.

Hello,

As I mentioned in my last post on this thread, I need a copy of the email message that caused the problem. The easiest way to do this is to copy the message back to your NewMail folder, note the filename (a CNM) Then mail me (irelam@telus.net) with the problem CNM message attached .

I am not sure what you mean about receiving replies. The common way to see responses to your post is to check back to this site to see follow ups, of which there are already several.  Hope that helps.

There are no instant email notifications available, for thread replies?

I cant send copies of emails because I do legal work and client emails are confidential. Here's a screen shot from one I JUST got. And it does these maybe 4-5 times for each time this starts! I hit ok, then another and another.

Thanks for the screenshot. Unfortunately it does not tell us much, other than you have a problem.  As there are no other similar reports, it seems to be unique to your machine or installation of Pegasus Mail.  So to start off we need your configuration, the steps are:

 1. Click "Help" on main Pegasus Mail menu

2. Click on "About Pegasus Mail..." button

3. Click "Info..." button

4. Select all the text that is displayed.

5. Paste the text from 4. into a new message addressed to me (irelam@telus.net)

6. Click Send.

If we see anything unusual we will let you know.  We will then probably need a copy of a problem message, so if neccessary we can sign a NDA, and Notice of Destruction after investigation. Or preferably, you could edit the message before sending it to us by changing the To and From lines of the message. Just so you understand, we cannot do a detailed analysis without being able to duplicate the problem.

Hello Melissa,

Thank you for the config info. From that list we can see that you have a very large NewMail directory with over 2700 messages. The ideal maximum is between 200 and 500 messages. Reason for this is that every time you start Pegasus Mail or open the NewMail directory, all the messages get read again. If one of them contains a problem, the problem will occur time and time again. Ideally you should move messages from the NewMail directory to a more relevant folder. For instance having a folder for each client. Once you have your messages into folders you can identify in a folder, a problem message, which can be re-transmitted to you.

Alternatively, if you note the sender, date and subject while going through the NewMail folder, you could move the offending message into a special folder, like BadMessages. You should be able to locate the problem message fairly quickly, as the list of messages is displayed in date order, so having an idea of when the problem started will reduce the messages that need to be opened. does that make sense?

( never mind - went and unsubbed from this forum again - system won't let me delete this )

OMG. Every message actually gets read every time I open PM? Because I do legal work, I keep a copy of every message I SEND, and have 48,500 messages in that folder! Uh, NO, I cant possibly have a folder for each client.

I DO archive messages that are 6-7 months old, by month, though.

OK, I should focus on identifying the individual messages that cause the error. I'm just not sure how I can show them to you here, without violating client confidentiality.

But ACTUALLY, this isn't happening on opening PM, it happens when I click on individual emails to open them, or even just view them sometimes.

It's not just these access violation problems, but the program keeps crashing at various times too. If they don't get the bugs out of this, I'm afraid I have to move to Thunderbird soon.

I'd pay good money for Pegasus if the bugs were fixed, but David is apparently not a capitalist.

Are you using IMAP a lot? It's the last major issue to be solved by David Harris, but I haven't heard a lot about a new version being tested and released soon.
