Getting error 403 (forbidden)

I have forwarded the message you sent me, to Michael.

Martin

I have forwarded the message you sent me, to Michael.

Martin

For the last two or three months, I have been getting the error "error 403 (forbidden)" in emails sent to me from eBuyer.com and from ASUS.com,

when they seem to have graphics embedded..

The senders are not interested in resolving this as they haven't seen it from anyone else.

I have tried disabling the IERenderer , which removes the error but it seems to slow down graphics

downloads unacceptably.

I know that this error was reported in 2007, but no resolution was announced, and it seems to have been quiet since.

Any answers?

Open these messages in your browser if you feel the need to see these images, there's a respective entry in the reader's context menu (right cick) Your browser(s) might be capable of dealing with this.

Thank you Michael. I have been opening them in the browser (usually Firefox), and that works in line with my expectations,
but is less convenient than having them in the message (when the sender is trusted).

In one of your replies in 2007, you mentioned that anyone who would continue to prefer to use IERenderer, despite this issue
(i.e. does not wish to disable IERenderer for any reason) could contact you by email for an alternative solution. I tried the
email address given in that post, but the message bounced. However, is that offer still open?

Best wishes,

Kenneth Spencer

Just as a general note to begin with: IER is optimized with regard to maximum security especially since lots of people didn't and still don't trust IE at all. Since the error is provided by the server hosting the images I would rather like to know why it does this at all instead of just providing access by ignoring it's error messages - if I could get this to work at all.

Next please provide a link to the post you're refering to, I don't remember anything about this issue, but if the email address provided there was <beta-reports [at] pmail.gen.nz> please note, that I only look at this mailbox once in a couple of weeks since I'm not as busy with regard to Pegasus Mail like I used to be in the past (due to various personal and job issues). I really have no idea what kind of work-around I had in mind at that time - if any at all. It might only have been the idea of getting through these hassles with someone like you as the tester for any attempts to solve such an issue.

I would be interested to hear whether you actually disabled IERenderer which will cause the original Bearhtml to take its place (temporarily). While using Bearhtml there will be a log file, Bearhtml.log to be used to record events. Before trying this, please locate Bearhtml.ini (likely in c:\pmail\programs but could be in c:\pmail\mail\admin) and alter the value TRACE= to TRACE=8, in order to get the most detailed info. Then open Pegasus Mail and open the problem message. And then mail a copy of Bearhtml.log to me at irelam@telus.net.

Thank you,

Thanks Michael ... here is the thread in which you mentioned making contact if IERenderer was preferred: http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/29476.aspx

Your comment is a little way into the thread, made on 9th June 2011 (I must watch our for those dangerous US date formats!) at 17:48.

APOLOGIES: Brain failure has occurred (again!): It was Thomas Stephenson who made the comment to which I referred! So I am not surprised that you didn't remember making it!

Best wishes,

Kenneth Spencer

Thanks Martin ...

I did disable IERenderer using the dialogue displayed when the button in the top toolbar showing the Pegasus Icon is clicked on and the tick box is unticked.

Regarding the suggested log retrieval - I will do that in the next few days and email a copy to you.

Best wishes,

Kenneth Spencer

Never mind, it might give me an idea what to look for nevertheless, but I would need a message for investigating, duplicating and testing which you may forward to <beta-reports [at] pmail.gen.nz>: Please do a forward with such a "problem" message attached to a new one with a subject pointing to IERenderer and a reference to this thread so I can quickly find it within all the spam messages sent to this mail accout. I can't make any promises about a possible solution and its soon release, though.

[note to myself: maybe a user agent issue]
